Ultra Fast Broadband:

The fibre network is the ultra fast broadband.  So if your into the ultimate speed and capacity and your district where you live has this option, then it is the better option.

Broadband:

This is not as fast as the ultra fast broadband but it still does the job.  You can be connected to broadband easily enough by phone.

Dial up:

If you can’t get broadband or prefer to keep your internet use to a minimum, a dial up connection could be your option.  This particular option personally is not good if your into video.  You will find the video goes on a go slow. So be aware.

Types of Internet Connections:

There are two types of digital subscriber lines.

The two main categories being ADSL and SDSL.

Now I know of the ADSL as I personally use this with a modem via home.

ADSL is short for asymmetric digital subscriber line.
ADSL is a type of DSL(Digital Subscribers Line) broadband communications technology used for connecting to the Internet.

ADSL allows more data to be sent over existing copper telephone lines (POTS) short for plain old telephone service, which refers to the standard telephone service that most homes use, when compared to traditional modem lines. 

A special filter, called a microfilter, is installed on a subscriber’s telephone line to allow both ADSL and regular voice (telephone) services to be used at the same time. 

ADSL requires a special ADSL modem and subscribers must be in close geographical locations to the provider’s central office to receive ADSL service. 
Typically this distance is within a radius of 2 to 2.5 miles. ADSL supports data rates of from 1.5 to 9 Mbps when receiving data (known as the downstream rate) and from 16 to 640 Kbps when sending data (known as the upstream rate).

SDSL is short for symmetric digital subscriber line, a technology that allows more data to be sent over existing copper telephone lines (POTS). SDSL supports data rates up to 3 Mbps.

SDSL works by sending digital pulses in the high-frequency area of telephone wires and can not operate simultaneously with voice connections over the same wires.

SDSL requires a special SDSL modem. SDSL is called symmetric because it supports the same data rates for upstream and downstream traffic. A similar technology that supports different data rates for upstream and downstream data is called asymmetric digital subscriber line (ADSL). ADSL is more popular in North America, whereas SDSL is being developed primarily in Europe.

What is a modem?
 A modem is a device or program that enables a computer to transmit data over, for example, telephone or cable lines. Computer information is stored digitally, whereas information transmitted over telephone lines is transmitted in the form of analog waves. A modem converts between these two forms.
