Are We Really Giving Our Children The Best Education?
While doing weekly grocery shopping I noticed this funky yet weird child’s play set. I thought nothing of it until I noticed what it’s called..
And it got me thinking..
Is My Child Going To Get The Best Education To Allow Him To Be Successful In The 21st Century??
When we are feeding ourselves with ‘Made In China’ education products (be it baby toys or other education assisting play sets) that are designed to be cheap rather than good value and quality then can we really expect to receive high quality results?
I mean look what was written on that box..
Once Own Nothing Can Instead
What the hell does that even mean?!?!
Forget the fact that it could be confused with being a ‘Make your own Frankenstein’ for 3 year olds…Do I want to be giving my son a play set, right at the age that he’s starting to learn letters and words, that uses English translated straight from Chinese or Mandarin?
I guess where I’m going with this topic is that I don’t want my child to grow up with the same education that my grandparents were taught. I’m not saying my grandparents are uneducated, God forbid! I’m just saying that what applied back in the ’40s and ’50s is quite different to what applies in today’s high tech world.
Have a look at this pic I saw on facebook..
Same as Yesterday: Obedience and Conformity
Conformity: Is This A Good Education
I want to share a little story I heard from an inspiring person.
Little Suzy is 6 years old and watching her mother bake Sunday night’s traditional dinner. All the family is coming around so Suzy’s mother, Pam, is making the traditional meal.
Pam takes the ham, cuts the ends off and places it in the baking dish, then into the oven. Our little attentive Suzy notices this and asks he mother why she’s cut the ends off.
“Well Suzy,” her mother replies, “that’s just how we do it.”
Not willing to take this answer, Suzy persists and eventually her mother Pam decides to call her mother, Gran Beth, to ask why it’s done like this.
“Oh Suzy,” Gran Beth starts, “You’re so full of questions. This is just how we do it, that’s all there is to know.”
Feeling upset and unhappy with the responses, Suzy keeps pushing Gran Beth and eventually they decide to speak to Gran Beth’s mother, Great-Granny Linda. Being over 90 years old, Suzy’s lucky she has the opportunity to speak with her great-grandmother!
“Ahh Suzy,” Sighs Great-Gran Linda, “What a wonderful question. You see, back when I was young and would bake the traditional Sunday Dinner, the oven was very small and couldn’t take a full size ham. So we had to cut the ends of to fit it into the oven.”
I’m sure you’ve got the idea. Some of the things we are doing today have been passed down from generation to generation purely because “That’s the way it’s done.”
But is this really the best education to give a child? Is this going to allow a child to develop his thought processes and find new solutions to old problems?
Our education system has been brainwashing us for too long. Forcing us to believe that if you don’t have letters before or after your name then you are doomed to fail. Making us believe that the ONLY way is the HARD way.
We are told that the saying “If it sounds too good to be true, then it probably is” means that someone is trying to steal from you. That “Get Rich Quick” really means “Get Scammed Quick”.
But with the power of the Internet and with the wonderful pieces of technology that we have today, our education and knowledge should allow us to utilize these tools and MAXIMIZE our abilities to go places and do things. Not restrain us greater and limit our minds.
