What is feeling vulnerable to You?

Restored from the Empower Network archive (2011–2017), lightly edited to meet our current advertising standards. Views are the original author’s.

I am feeling vulnerable and don’t like it.

Which is too bad really, because it is integrally part of what makes us Human.  Not something we can escape or avoid.  We can and do try to ignore it.  We can and do try to numb it from being too intrusive.

Numbing the “feeling vulnerable” has far reaching affects.

You see, our efforts at numbing feeling vulnerable, feeling pain, feeling loss and grief have unintended consequences.  We are not constructed to be able to only numb the “Bad” feelings.  When we numb feeling vulnerable, we are also numbing our joy, capacity for love, our empathy, and experience of life.  All our feelings come from the same source, and when we try to put a lid on them they all suffer.

Feeling vulnerable is not Manly…

But you can see how that might be a problem, given what I’ve written above.  Sure, we know how to ACT and produce simulations of the “Good” emotions, and some do occasionally escape from under the lid, like steam finding release.

My Story, part of it anyway.

So, it’s that feeling vulnerable, of being too delicate to do the things I’ve loved doing that has been preying on me.  I realize that my attempts to ignore, overwhelm, or numb  the feeling have had an adverse affect on the rest of my psyche.

What needs to happen?  Beginning with this post, I am going to acknowledge that my feeling vulnerable is part of my being Human.  To fully experience all that my life has to offer I need to take the lid off and deal with what may come.

Having started this process here in my Blog, I guess that a part of my work will include further introspections.

What is “Feeling Vulnerable” to You?  Asking for help? Certain types of people or their behavior(s)?  Age?  Health concerns?  Relationship stressors?
