Do you ever have days where, no matter HOW much personal development you’ve done, no matter how many tools you have in your arsenal, you just can’t seem to get out of your “rut”?
I came across this video by Gabby today titled “How to Accept the Things You Cannot Change” and it resonated very strongly with me. I have been reading her book “Spirit Junkie” where she shares her journey of using the work taught in “A Course in Miracles” to transform her life from insecure alcoholic and drug user, to a spiritual seeker and eventual teacher, and have found her work to be very powerful!
We Are Human
Feelings of overwhelm, exhaustion, and negative thoughts get the best of us.
Every so often I have a days like these, where even though I “know” what I should be doing, I just can’t seem to apply the knowledge I have. I often get frustrated with myself, because as a student of personal development & law of attraction I believe that I should be able to turn my thoughts and feelings around instantly, 24/7.
This often creates more guilt, shame and frustration as I judge myself for not being able to apply my own tools that I teach others to use.
It’s important to remember, that although we may have done a lot of work in the spiritual or personal development arenas, we ARE still human and we can never make our ego’s “disappear”.
We cannot control everything that happens and sometimes the only thing that is necessary to move on powerfully is to completely relinquish that desire for control.
What are We Really Here For?
Often times when we get into these little pickles, we forget what we’re really doing this work for. What is the bigger picture? What is our grand vision? What is our life REALLY about?
It’s not about you or me, but about the vision we have to impact the world and make a difference in the lives of others.
“Never forget, you are a servant of something f***ing unstoppable”.
Have Faith
Faith is an interesting phenomenon. In our society we are taught to believe the things we see, however faith has you believe that which cannot be seen.
In fact, faith teaches us that we must FIRST believe that which cannot be seen, and only when we truly believe it in the deepest seat of our soul, will the evidence appear before our eyes.
And by the way – this works for anyone, whether you are religious or spiritual or none of the above.
In fact, faith is the basis of the Law of Attraction – we must first BE what we want to attract, and then it is attracted to us. We must believe it BEFORE we see it.
This is where relinquishing control comes in. As I mentioned before, the only way to get over a breakdown such as overwhelm or frustration is to surrender your control and get present to the bigger vision.
You are here for something BIGGER than you. Give yourself a break, and remember it’s not about you.
Have faith, and trust the process.
Find A Mentor
Having a Mentor or friend that you trust and look up to is extremely important, especially when you get into ruts such as these ones. A mentor can help you see what you can’t see in that present moment, and can help you surrender your control and get present to your bigger vision.
When I was going through my moment of frustration and overwhelm yesterday, my mentor talked me through it and reminded me about my core WHY, and re-iterated how the Law of Attraction works. I know how the Law of Attraction works, but sometimes having someone else remind you of its power is necessary when you get into a rut.
She reminded me of a post I had written not too long about about Changing Your Story to the Story we WANT to tell about ourselves.
She reminded me of all of the amazing work I’d done and all the tools I have to use. She reminded me of how amazing and powerful I am, and how much power I have to impact so many more people.
Again – it’s NOT about me, it’s bigger than me. My mentor helped me get present to that. After our 10 minute conversation, I immediately felt at ease and felt clear about why I was doing what I was doing in the first place.
Accept The Things You Cannot Change
As Gabby has shared so powerfully in the above video, you are a servant of something bigger than you, and a little acceptance is all you need to recognise that there are some things you just cannot change.
Remember that you are human, get present to your vision, have faith in your vision, and talk through it with someone you trust. This is how you accept the things you cannot change.
