It’s inevitable. You’re cruising down the road, minding your own business, and some young punk pulls up beside you in the car of your dreams. “Son of a bitch… you mutter under your breath. That’s probably his daddy’s car, must be nice.” Maybe you forget that thought as easily as it came, but chances are, you hang on to it: “Rich People Suck”
It’s not necessarily your fault. You weren’t born with connections or a silver spoon in your mouth. I mean, every rich person on TV is evil, always trying to step on everyone for the heck of it, right? You are just as smart as that guy. Smarter, probably. He’s just lucky, and you’re mad because he’s living the life you were supposed to live.
I remember in my late teens, in 1988 in fact, when I pulled up to a light and a dude not much older than me rolled up next to me in a brand new, red Porsche 911 Targa. At the time, I actually had a poster of that car on my wall. Read the last couple sentences from the first paragraph again. That’s what I said verbatim when I saw it…
Today, that car sits in my garage. It’s my fun car for when I just wanna go drive around. Here she is, isn’t she a beauty?
So, what happened to “Rich People Suck”? Now, I’m just one of them, right? A Sell-Out? a 1%’er that sold his soul? I thought you were gonna tell me why rich people suck?
OK, I will. They suck only because of your flawed perception. The truth is, people of all financial standings are good, bad, evil, crazy, and anything else. It has nothing to do with the money. It has to do with you relationship to money. I’m going to play psychic for a second… If you truly think that rich people suck, you’re broke. How did I know? Well, you have to be, because someone who hates people because of money will never have any of it. Money is a result of your best thinking and value in the world.
I finally came to realize that if you want something that someone has, no amount bitching and moaning is going to do you a damn bit of good. Sorry, it’s the truth, and I would know. I bitched and moaned and poor-mouthed for a decade and all it got me was poorer, lonelier, and more depressed. In fact, it drives the thing you want further from you.
After all, if you hate that guy just for having something you want, how can you ever be that guy. The guy you hate with a passion? You can’t, and here’s why: Your subconscious mind, which controls almost everything you do, will never let you be the guy you hate. The solution? Change your thoughts, change your life. The next time that happens to you try this. Look at the guy chilling in the Ferrari, or boat, or with that hot chick on his arm (or whatever you want), and say:
That guy is awesome. I bet he provides a ton of value to be able to have something like that. How cool that something like that even exists. I wonder what he knows to make himself so valuable and what can I learn from him?
That’s the question I started asking myself. “What can I learn from that guy?” So, over the years, I have made myself valuable in different areas and have been rewarded. It’s a funny thing, really, and not very intuitive. It took me a while to figure it out and I probably still would think rich people sucked if it wasn’t for some really nice, generous, and awesome rich people that have helped me along the way. The truth is that money just makes you more of who you already are.
So, get over yourself already. I can tell you, given the choice of being rich or being poor, I would definitely choose being rich. And chances are, you would too. So go be rich already. Your anger isn’t doing you any good. Your poverty isn’t doing you or anyone else any good either. just let it go and start learning how to bring more into your life.
Being rich or being broke is a choice. It really is. History is full of people that had nothing and went on to great success. We all have the capability and opportunity in front of us if we choose to see it. The power is yours if you choose to receive it and apply it.
If you’re having trouble seeing any opportunity in your life, it is my pleasure to introduce you to some folks that can help you change your direction.
