Have you seen any of the videos of talking parrots and ever wondered where these  talking parrots retire to after…well…they don’t talk anymore… or the folks that bought them don’t want them?   Well, our family found out today.  But before I tell you about that…let’s hear from one of these talking parrots….singing Gangnam style no less.

Talking Parrots That Sing Gangnam Style Still Need a Place to Retire

Did you know that talking parrots could say ‘sexy lady’? Did you catch that part. Did you find that cute at all? Are you sick of that Gangnam Style song yet?  I am!

The question I have for you is what will happen to this cute little guy after his singing career is over or its owners get tired of it, or can no longer care for it?

Let’s face it…there is certainly a cuteness factor with talking parrots and even those less linguistically blessed.   Take these two talking parrots for example.

Cute Talking Parrots with Over 2 Million Fans

Okay…I’m not sure what all the rage was over these two talking parrots…but…they were cute.

However…just like most cute pets…these cute little talking parrots may need a home when they run out of speaking engagements or when the folks who own them…just don’t find them cute anymore.

To be honest, the lives of talking parrots or any other former pets wasn’t really foremost on our minds…until we happened to visit a world famous sanctuary where many of these little fellers happen to retire to.

Talking Parrots and Friends Have a Home for Life at the World Parrot Refuge

The World Parrot Refuge is located in Coombs on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada…just down the road from the world famous Dutch Import Store…where you can buy the best licorice and wooden shoes on the internet. (That was a free plug for my new friends there because our kids loved that store so much…and it’s my blog…and I can say whatever I want).  Don’t you wish you had your own blog?

Anyways…I had the pleasure of meeting the owner/operator of the World Parrot Refuge today and she has given much of her life offering a sanctuary ‘for life’ for talking parrots and others.

After seeing and hearing what I did at the World Parrot Refuge, I can well imagine that the over 800 parrots, staff and volunteers would consider this woman to be the Jane Goodall of parrots.

There is a lot of time and resources that has gone into maintaining the 23,000 square feet of heated indoor free-flight aviaries since June of 2005.  There are also plans for 16,000 square feet of easily accessed outdoor flight areas for the warmer months.
