Weight Loss After 50 part 2
Weight loss after 50 is not easy!
Here are my diary totals for the month of January 2012.
One birthday, so yes I’m now 51.
Walked 90.1 miles
Yoga 4 times about 20 to 25 minutes each time.
Ran once, about a mile
Weights 3 times about 15 minutes each time.
Pounds lost: 1.5
If this were The Biggest Loser I would have been booted off long time ago.
Introducing Weight Lifting and Yoga
It’s not a lack of effort, I took about 3 minutes per mile off the time that I walk. Adding the yoga and weights and running are efforts to start seeing the pounds drop off. Trying to pump up the metabolism.
Honestly, the lifting weights and yoga were added to the work out recently. And actually even though there is not a big difference on the scales yet, I do notice a difference in my body.
They are subtle differences, probably only the kind that I notice because it is my body, but they are happening.
Less fat in certain areas that I am aware my body stores said fat. I believe everybody has those places, under your arms, on your legs, on your butt, under your chin, etc.
Well for me, those places are getting smaller. So in other words, progress, albeit slow, progress.
Whenever you make changes to your body be it by exercise, diet, nutrition, it makes decisions how best to deal with those changes. In my case, my body is adding muscle and getting rid of fat. As the muscle mass goes up and the fat mass goes down, they seem to be balancing each other out. So therefore, not much difference on the scale.
But, maybe I am getting impatient, this is starting to go a little too slow.
So this months game plan…
I have come up with a new game plan. Continue to walk because it is a good cardio exercise and pick up the running more often. Also add weight lifting and yoga 3 to 4 time per week.
Also eat a better diet. Eat more vegetables, more protein and less sugar. Plus add better nutrition via vitamins.
How is that for a plan?
Stay tuned next month for Weight Loss After 50 part 3!
