Laura Parrish

Sobriety arrives one day at a time, and Laura Parrish writes about it that way rather than as an achievement already banked. That post is the most honest thing on the blog and it changes how the rest reads.

She works mostly in the register of encouragement, but with better material than most. She argues that you cannot make somebody else turn the pages of their own life, and that watching them reread the same chapter is its own kind of grief. She takes a Dr Seuss book about a boy overwhelmed by troubles and treats it as a serious text, because her mother read it to her and she now reads it to her own children.

Then there is a run of news and celebrity reposting: verdicts, autopsies, a snake whose venom is horrifying, a strange teenage trend. That material was written to catch attention and it does not pretend otherwise.

Nineteen posts. Read the sobriety one and the Dr Seuss one back to back. They are the same argument told twice.
