Why Should A Single Dad Join a Network Marketing Company?
The simple answer as to why I joined a network marketing company, (my company of choice was Numis), sounds rote: Money, Time, and Freedom. Yeah, we hear that catch phrase thrown around a lot. It usually precedes a pitch into network marketing (GASP!!!! Not THOSE evil words – Holy Shades of Amway, Batman!!)
But I also know network marketing is the only business where I could drastically change my financial picture in less than a year (if you know the secret of how to do it!) without big risk or financial investment. It would also change the relationship with my kids by giving me time freedom and economic freedom.
Though Money, Time, and Freedom are the simple answers, the reasons behind it are more complex. “Unfulfilled” stands at the top of those reasons. Starting over after becoming a newly single dad was a great motivator to look at why I was feeling unfulfilled, and to do something about it. I desired to rebuild my life exactly as I choose this time, and with the people I choose to have in it. I also wanted to follow three important lessons I have learned and never forgotten.
Why Should A Single Dad Join a network Marketing Company?
Lesson #1: I wanted permanent, not temporary income
I learned lesson #1 through my brief stint in insurance – the value of residual income. J. Paul Getty said “I would rather have 1% of the efforts of 100 people than 100% of my own efforts.” I have to pay to get into J. Paul’s crib, “The Getty”. I don’t recall anyone knocking at my door paying me entry into “The Moreno”. So I figure just maybe he knew what he was talking about.
Though I didn’t care for the insurance industry, I loved those residuals. Permanent income – I work once and continued to get paid for it. I wasn’t trading my hours for dollars and creating a temporary income.
Lesson #2: Family and Friendships fulfill me more than anything. I wanted more time flexibility with my friends and with my kids.
Upon becoming a single dad, I’ve been blessed to reconnect with dear old friends. In each case, it was as if time had stood still. Conversation seemed to pick up where it left off, in some instances 25 years prior. I’ve missed my friends, and realized how easy it is to get stuck in the daily grind of life and lose the most precious aspect of our lives – relationships.
I would love to have the freedom to up and fly into San Francisco, Minnesota, Texas or Japan to see my friends whenever I wanted. These were good friends by choice, and I wanted real, physical friendships again, not simply a Facebook avatar. I would enjoy meeting their kids, some of whom are now the same age as when I first met their parents.
Lesson #3: True Freedom is priceless!
I learned lesson #3, True Freedom, when I was briefly involved in a network vacation company a decade ago. It was a great company, a great product, and I made some good money part time from home.
Before I became a single dad, my son Nick and I were camping out at the Boy Scout Jamboree. While Nick was off with the other Webelos, I was lying on my air mattress right outside my tent, talking on the phone with a potential partner. Working my business while looking up at the sky through the gold and red canopy of the trees, lesson #3 hit me. This is true time freedom! The business follows me wherever I go, and I can work it whenever I please. I’m not tied down to a specific time or geographic location because of my JOB. Heck, I wasn’t even at a desk. Freaking awesome!
I stopped that vacation business when life threw some serious curves at me. However, I knew I’d be back into network marketing when the dust settled.
I recently pulled all my vacation business out of storage, and was getting ready to start over when my retired mom asked me for a favor. She had started a business and asked her eight kids to support her by stopping by her house to listen to her business partner. I’m glad to support my mom, but I also knew she would lay out a tasty spread for the occasion!
Though I went mostly for the food, what I saw was a business that was better than the one I was about to re-start. Money, time, and freedom were all present, and it dealt with a product that I wouldn’t mind having a garage full of – silver and gold. An added bonus was the privilege to help others. What timing! Karma has been amazing to me lately.
