What’s the secret to getting traffic, creating leads and making sales?

I was on a “one on one” coaching call last night with another marketer who was (figuratively speaking) passing out golden nuggets. I just received some disappointing news about something I was working on for a marketing campaign and frankly I was a little ticked off.

So What Happened Next?

I remembered seeing an email come through earlier yesterday from this marketer offering a 30 min coaching session with anyone on his list who needed help with one or two thing that was holding them back in their business. So I gave him a call.

I explained the few things that I felt were holding me back and what he said was absolutely profound. Before he gave me the solution to my specific problems he spent most of our time together speaking about mind-set because he recognized (as any good coach does) that my mental fortitude was breaking down and he could sense the frustration.

He said the biggest obstacle to over come in online and network marketing is not how to set up a website, setting up an auto-responder or losing a bunch of money on a bad lead source. It’s more often than not, over coming our own self-defeating beliefs. That’s why, he went on, all of the top income earners in our profession speak so much about mind-set and not about the technical problems that people run into.

What’s the Truth?

The truth is, anyone can go on YouTube and track down ten free videos that will training them to set up their Facebook fan page or set up an Aweber account to start marketing on the internet. Of course it may take you a little time to figure it all out if your piece-mealing different trainings from different people together so I don’t recommend that strategy.

Most people misinterpret the problems their having in their business as having to do with technical difficulty. The reality is, the tech stuff is the easy part. I think we can agree that there’s no shortage of webinars to attend, tools or courses to buy and it’s rare to hear a person complain that there’s NOT enough information out in the market place!

There’s basically two categories that will determine a persons success in network marketing.

1) The “mechanics“of the business. The Blocking an tackling. This is the everyday “how to” part of the business that includes the tech stuff.

2) The “mind-game”. This is the real stumbling block. This is having the mind-set to keep pressing on and not quit in the face of obstacles that rear their ugly heads as we’re building our future. Obstacles like your best friend saying NO to your business, your family thinking you joined some sort of online cult or working all day and then working your internet marketing business part-time until 1am every day. There’s always going to be people or limitations in your life that either directly or in directly tell you “you won’t make it” but the biggest unbeliever is often YOU!

Don’t Sabotage Your Business with Destructive Self-Talk

Now that I think back on what I was mad about I realize it was a weenie little problem that I should have just broken in two with my forehead the second it appeared! A person’s self-talk will either be the glue that holds their business together or the fire that burns it to the ground.

I have a friend in the network marketing business who’s an absolute recruiting monster in the offline marketing niche and he always signs off his emails with “if you believe you can or if you believe you can’t, you’re right”. Now I didn’t take the time to research who said that or if it’s original to my friend but regardless, it pretty much says it all.
