In the windy conditions at the Arthur Ashe Stadium, Andy Murray takes on Novak Djokovic for another attempt to win his first Grand Slam title.
Fresh off his Olympic gold many think,
“Can Andy Murray overcome the Britain drought?”
“Is his time now? ”
“Will he do it this time?”
The doubters say the Olympic win was not classified of being Grand Slam Material, and they are quick to write him off to win a slam…
And on the other end, the ones who are behind him tells the story of the Gold being equivalent to the Majors and believes he has what it takes.
Yet, in the end of the day, those opinions might matter to some but not to the man himself who knows the key to his answers lies within.
And that’s exactly what he did on this day, prevailing and finally becoming a Champion at last,edging out defending Champion Novak Djokovic 7-6(12-10), 7-5, 3-6, 2-6, 6-2.
Andy Murray showed tremendous heart when he allowed Novak to level the sets two a piece. Honestly, I thought Nole was going to come back and win the whole thing with the way he was playing. The momentum Novak had built up in the previous sets and knowing his history of clutch plays in crunch time, if anyone was going to come back, it was him.
Then, I remember the time of Wimbledon 2008, where Nadal being up 2 sets with numerous championship points and Federer came storming back with clutch plays after another bringing the match back to deuce.
Nadal had all the rights to say…
“This isn’t happening for me… I’ve tried everything”
But that’s not what champions do..
They get up and keep fighting
…they get knocked down and get up to keep battling
Why?
Because they make a decision that they don’t want to return to that place of pain…(Rafa 2006 , 2007 Wimbledon loss)
Champions say enough is enough, I’m going to win this because this is my dream and nobody’s going to stop me to achieve it.
I said to myself, ” if He’s a champion he will come through, just the way Rafa did in Wimbledon”
Murray did just that, he dug deep down inside himself despite the circumstance he was in and knew that losing another Grand Slam Final is not again especially not in this fashion.
The memories of the moments of pain comes flashing back and tells himself not again…
Not this time…
Then off he goes, begins the 5th set breaking Nole’s service game. It doesn’t stop there, he hold serves and breaks Novak one more time to take a 3 – 0 lead. Novak being a champion himself, breaks back, and this is not only a phenomenal match but what inspiration you can get by just watching both players.
Now it’s 3 -1 , Novak holds serve making it 3 -2.
Wow, is Nole going to do it again?
Or
Is Andy going to answer?
The answer was…
A hold at love with Andy coming up with 4 huge serves one being a Ace putting him right back on Nole’s serve at 4 -2.
And what does he do?
Breaks him again.
5-2.
Serving for the championship..
At last,the moment has arrived…

My final thoughts, the match was incredible and Andy finally showcased his inner champion. Watching these matches,there’s a lot of things I learned and I’m sure all of you have as well. I can apply these lessons in the areas of my life, and keep fighting for what I want to accomplish. I truly believe we all have something amazing and whatever it is we should all thrive to achieve them because we are all champions.
