Failure – path to success

In school and at home, failure has always been something purely negative. Failure has always been that which has no place whatsoever in our growth process, especially academically. I remember vividly the trashing I received when I failed the exam to move to primary two. Yet, failing has always and continues to be the way that we learn. We actually learn by failing.
The example of learning how to walk.
A child only learns how to walk by getting up on his feet and falling when his legs do not responds favourably to his desire. Then he gets up again holding to chair and table to support himself while his legs get use to supporting his weight and movement on their own. Then he will manage a few steps and, to the floor he will go, but up he will come again and each time he will do better in walking with the knowledge of what happened the failure to walking on those trails he will have nothing to learn from, in order to walk.
The interesting part is that his success in walking is actually success in learning how to hold himself with his leg when he is falling. Come to think of it; walking is falling. Picture yourself standing and then you want to walk a head. What happens is that you learn forward and short falling ahead then only you move one leg to hold yourself from falling, and catching yourself. That in why when you miss your stop, to the ground your would go.
Same concept occurs in riding a bicycle, in learning how to drive, learning a language – Everything. The elective bulb was created only after 10000 times of failure. That was Thomas Edison. It will be interesting to checkout how people like Tiger woods started off in golf. Michael Johnson in basketball and other great sportsmen and women who have made indelible marks in their various niches…
The idea is not to set out to fail but that when we do meet with failure as we will mostly do when doing something new, we should seek to learn from it and do better at the next tiny rather that getting discouraged by it and giving up. It is a matter of attitude.
Have a Crystal Clear picture of you Goal.
All we need is a clear idea of what we want to achieve – our vision, and keep working at it till we hit the goal.
The purpose of a very vivid picture of our goal has great psychological benefits. For one thing, of the total activities that go on in us as we go about every day’s ups and downs, there is only about 20% (or even less) that is under our conscious control. The rest is unconscious and therefore catered for by the subconscious mind.
A clear intention of what we want to accomplish will tune the subscious into triggering those actions that will lead you to that goal. It as simple as that.
Failure thus becomes part of the process.
It pointers toward the right direction, it becomes the indicator of wrong paths and bad habit. Hence you can identify what keep you unsuccessful and thus get rid of them.
