Los Angeles Lakers

The Los Angeles Lakers is a basketball team from Los Angeles, California and plays in the National Basketball association (NBA). The previous name of the team was MinneapolisLakers. By winning 16 championships in NBA, Los Angeles Lakers are one of the most successful teams in NBA.

The franchise began its association in 1947 when Morris Chalfont of Minnesota bought Detroit games from Detroit Gem owner Maury Winston. The name was inspired by Minnesota’s nick name which the land of 10000 lakes and eventually called The Lakers. John Kundla was the first coach of the team. In 1960 the team was moved to Los Angeles due to financial and other issues becoming the first team in the west coast. A new record was made of 71 pt. win against New York Knicks in which there were 25 rebounds. Their worse record reported was in 1958 season where they loss by 19 and 53. They won the first title after moving to Los Angeles in 1972. Lakers were named “ShowTime” due to the fast break offence led by Magic Johnson who took part in major victories of the Lakers.

After the retirement of Johnson, Lakers struggle with their performance and lost many matches and series. In 1996 the team got the services of Shaquille O’Neal and Kobe Bryant their performance like superstars led the Los Angeles Lakers to three consecutive titles.

During 1972 season, The Lakers held winning streak of 33 which was the longest of the team in American professional sports.

The team is also operational in selling match tickets, other merchandise and television rights. The operated partnerships with Time warner cable company which launched two new local television sports channels in high definition to show case the matches of Los AngelesLakers. This contract was operational for 20 years. This was the best opportunity for Lakersfan to watch all the news views and information about their team on a single channel. This was available to all states via satellite. Spanish was also the language of the channels broadcasting games.

Since its inception, the team participated in every playoff but five. The team has qualified for the NBA final fifteen times. Only three teams that never lost 60 games in a seasons and Lakers were one of the teams. The official home arena for the Lakers is at Staples Center which is near Downtown in los angeles. The arena was inaugurated in 1999 with around 20000 seats. This arena was also used as home arena for Los Angeles Clippers and the Los Angeles Kings of NHL. Staples center was not the home arena for Lakers from start, they have played home games from their start, in Inglewood California. Staples Center is one of the most advanced arenas in the world which hosts many other events providing quality of services in sports and entertainment.

The Lakers are no doubt one of the best team in NBA and its continue to grow and providing quality sports to its fans.
