GeoSpatial Sites Ranked September 2013

Here is another installment of some of the major GeoSpatial Sites in the Industry. This is not claimed to be an exhaustive list, well far from it, so if you would like to add your site to it, please let me know.

The statistics come from Alexa.com, a site that monitors the global traffic of websites, their visitors, keywords, social media links and much more. I would recommend you visit this site and check it out for yourself. Also if you would like any additional sites tracked please let me know.

GeoSpatial Magazines

Once again Directions Magazine is a clear winner with a global ranking of 17,370, an increase of over 500 since last month.  Their nearest rivals are all clustered together but it is clear to see where the industry goes for its news.

GeoSpatial Jobs Sites

Some slight order changes from last month, but www.gisjobs.com still remains out in front. Australia’s foremost spatial industry jobs website, www.spatialjobs.com.au, dropped back slightly but on a global scale they are still competing very well. I think it shows the extent of how people are interested in working in Australia.

GeoSpatial Blogs

This is also a highly competitive group with Slash Geo out in front followed by CartoTalk, GISbuzz and GeoAwesomeness. Given that GISBuzz is a relative newcomer to this space, it would not surprise me to see it take over the top spot in coming months. The editors at GISbuzz are certainly busy posting great content.

GeoSpatial Associations

This month saw a surge from SSSI in Australia taking the top ranked position over URISA.

GeoSpatial Vendors

Vendors are clearly the most highly trafficked sites in our industry with the main three all in the top 15,000 most visited sites. Autodesk continues to dominate across a cross section of industries. I do find it very interesting that MapInfo products (PB.com) outrank Esri searches.

GeoSpatial Connect

Thanks to all growing membership for GeoSpatial Connect, we have a ranking now at 289,370 globally.  A new site came to my attention in this space this month with Geo Connect People. They have been around a lot longer than GeoSpatial Connect and have many more members but GeoSpatial Connect is out-ranking them by a factor of 10. Lets hope we can continue to grow and gain market share.

Empower Network

Why have I added this graph? Well it is a company called Empower Network and they host the GeoSpatial Connect blog. Being an authoritative site  our blogs rank higher than just being on out own domain but give links to GeoSpatial Connect to enhance our ranking as well.
