Time To Celebrate!
My sister Sally’s birthday is today and I’ve spent much of today reminiscing about my sister Sally and our lives throughout the years. I find it amazingly ironic how God has worked in and out of our lives. He knew we would need each other. We are two and half years apart in age, but for much of our childhood you would have thought us to be twins. As children we were affectionately known as the little girls. Reason being, where you saw one you saw the other.
As far as personalities we are total opposites. As a child, Sally was always out going, funny and up for anything. I on the other hand was pretty reserved and shy and always afraid of getting in trouble with Daddy. Needless to say, Sally had a way with words and I was usually right in the middle of whatever she talked me into.
Sally keep me in trouble!
I blame her for getting me into some trouble over the years, but I would do it all again to relive those wonderful carefree days we had. As time moved along and we grew into adulthood we remained close and were never far from one another. The bond between us has grown ever stronger as we have both went on to build our own lives.
I always envied Sally for the sureness she always portrayed in herself and how she could speak her mind with boldness. She was always the life of the party and always brought a smile to everyone she met. I have to admit I was jealous, but all the same she was my idol.
As time has moved along, whatever differences we encountered are hard for me to recall. Sally has forgiven me more than anyone should ever have to forgive someone. This along represents the wonderful person she is.
My sister has been my dearest friend throughout my life.
We have been through so much and I thank God that I had her by my side. There has never been a time when I needed her that she was not by my side.
Today I am not so shy, I take risks and I enjoy life. But I credit Sally that I am able to do these things. By the example she set, I have learned to be confident and believe in myself. It was from years of watching my sister walk in confidence, holding her head high and being secure in who she was that has helped shape me into the woman I am today.
It’s funny how times and God has brought us full circle. We went through childhood glued to one another, remained best friends throughout the years and now as we are coming upon are senior years (she will hate those words) are friendship remains stronger than ever.
I just wanted to honor my sister today and tell her how much she has inspired me through the years.
I want her to know how much I love her. I want to thank her for being a sister that anyone would be proud to have. Finally I thank God that He made her my sister.
