Love the Underdog: The Rocky Story
Why does everyone love the Rocky story? Why do we always love the underdog? You know what I mean. The downtrodden nice guy that is stuck at the bottom who suddenly gets a chance for great success. Of course once he gets that chance, he grabs it and wins.
People love these stories because they are able to connect with the character. No matter how successful we are, for some reason we always feel like the downtrodden hero. We all want to do something great. We all want to win and live an epic life.
Unfortunately, life is not like the movies. It is extremely rare that any of us get that shot. I’ve found there are no free lunches in life. The only opportunities out there are the opportunities that we make for ourselves.
How to Love the Underdog in the Real World
I try to mentor and coach others. I find too many people that say, I’m here, where is my shot to be the champ. Showing up is only half of the battle. The key after showing up is taking action. We all love the underdog, but we need to be the pack leader if we want to really win.
If you want to have the happy ending, I mean in the movie sense, you have to take control of your own destiny. You need to find the opportunity, then you need to show up and finally, you need to TAKE ACTION.
The champ’s agent is not going to just show up at your door and give you a shot at the title. Plus, you probably don’t want your face bashed in my some pro-boxer anyway.
