I have a 3rd grader that we’ve recently decided to homeschool. I’m not new to homeschooling. I homeschooled my oldest son for 1st grade. I used a Christian curriculum and supplemented some resource materials for math and reading/language arts. He mastered the materials and was able to enter a private school at the 2nd grade level. He achieved honor roll status every quarter since he was enrolled.
But 3rd grade is definitely more challenging than 1st grade! In 1st grade, your child is learning to read. In 3rd grade, your child is reading to learn. Critical thinking skills need to be mastered, in order for your child to succeed. I am currently using a Christian curriculum to complete his 3rd grade education. However, I didn’t know what curriculum/resources to use for his 4th grade education.
I knew that the US Department of Education recently implemented a Common Core State Standards Initiative to bring state curricula into alignment with each other by creating common core standards. These Common Core Standards were created for Math and English and Language Arts. They were created to ensure that students are prepared for college and vocations no later than the end of high school.
I have to admit that I was not ready to teach my son, until my mother-in-law a 1st grade teacher with more than 40 years experience guided me to the Common Core State Standards website: http://www.corecommonstandards.com. This website is a great resource for information for all grades and their respective Common Core Standards. The Common Core Standards for each state are also listed.
The Fourth Grade Common Core Workbook is the largest collection of worksheets and activities for teaching the Fourth Grade Common Core State Standards. This workbook includes over 850 pages of Worksheets, Activity Centers and Posters that teach all the Fourth Grade English Language Arts Common Core Standards and all the Fourth Grade Mathematics Common Core Standards.
This is a great resource not only for school teachers, but homeschoolers as well. It is a one stop shop for Common Core Standards for 4th grade Math and English and Language Arts. I am grateful to have access to this information to ensure that my son will be able to master the standards needed for his 4th grade education.
