You Need A Keyword In Your Domain Name
Selecting the right Domain Name for your website is the most important step you can take when starting your own business. This is a name you are going to brand yourself on so you need to be sure it’s a name people search for on the internet. Or, you can use your name and brand yourself as the authority. To help the search engines find your site, the keyword you’re going after need to be in your domain name.
The name will tell people what you have to offer and will help them decide if they are interested in looking further. There are several ways you can select your domain name to bring in your customers. If you are starting your first website you may feel overwhelmed by the many choices that you have to make. Make yourself a list to help you get started.
How do You Start the Domain Name Process?
First of all you want to write down all the products or services you’ll be offering. This will help you identify what keywords you need to go after. Be sure to identify your market by looking at things like age group, interests, problems your products can you solve, etc.
After you’ve narrowed it down a bit, choose a name that will combine both the products and the age group to create a successful domain name. Your Domain Name needs to capture the essence of what your site is about. If it’s about building log cabins then log cabins need to be in the “domain name” somewhere. Your domain name is the basis for all your marketing efforts. You must build from a good foundation.
Where do You Get A Domain Name?
Most people go to GoDaddy to see what “Domain Names” are available. It’s very simple, you just type in the Domain Name you’ve come up with to see if it’s available. The most common ending for a website is .com but you can also use .net or .org. Most recently a .co has become prevalent. The search engines don’t really care what you use, they’re looking for relevancy with your domain name to what is on your website. If log cabins are in your domain name then you site needs to be about log cabins.
Before you go to register your domain name, do yourself a favor and go to Google Adwords Keyword Tool and see how many searches the keyword actually gets per month. Personally I look for at least 20,000 searches per month minimum and no more than 90,000. You want to be able to rank for the keyword on the search engines so any more than that and it’s just too difficult. For more information on keywords and keyword research, check out this article.
