It can be hard to keep shag area rugs clean, but they may give a room a pleasant look and feel. With proper care and maintenance, you can keep your rug looking like new for a long time. You will have to be diligent in taking care of your rug so that it does not turn out looking worn down quickly. The primary actions for proper care of the rug involve sweeping and vacuuming, paddling, and shampooing them on occasion.
You can sweep the rugs with a bristle broom if they are not too big. The bristles in this kind of broom can get down into the rug to push the dirt out as well as keep the rug looking shaggy. If you want to keep the dirt and debris out of the rug then you should sweep it often. You will need to operate a vacuum over your rug at least a couple of times per week. Vacuuming is effective in removing dust and dirt left behind from sweeping, and it also keeps the rug from looking worn out.
Considering sweeping and vacuuming won’t get all of the dust and dirt out of the rug, you must also take it outside from time to time to paddle it. You will need to do this outside, but first you should roll the rug up to keep dirt and debris from falling on the floor. To paddle the rug, you will hang it over a rail or clothesline and paddle it with a broom or other long object. Any dirt that has been pushed deep down in the rug will be eliminated with paddling.
About once every six months or so, you should shampoo the carpet. Dirt and dust will stick to spots on the rug where anything might have been spilled. The dark stains will end up making your rug look dirty. You can rent or buy a carpet shampooer to do this on your own in most cases. Dependant upon its size or how dirty it is, you may have to hire a professional carpet cleaner to take on the task. You can utilize water from a hose to clean off outdoor rugs for patios. You can clean these rugs with water and not be concerned with damage because they are designed to handle all types of weather.
The use of shag area rugs in a house shows a very distinct type of style and taste. These rugs can be positioned both inside and outside, but you will need to care for them properly in order to maintain their appearance. It is hard to care for these rugs since it is impossible to reverse the effects if the rug starts to have a matted or worn down appearance. You can maintain the fun and shaggy appearance by vacuuming, paddling, and shampooing the rugs when needed.
