Mumford and Sons at Kuranda Ampitheatre

Today I’m very excited to be going to see the great UK band, Mumford and Sons, in the middle of the rainforest.  They’re coming all the way to Kuranda, just north of Cairns, in Queensland-Australia.  My favourite song at the moment is their ‘Lion Man’ single…you know it….’and it was not your fault but mine, and it was your heart on the line, I really f*&!* it up this time, didn’t I my dear…’ Real hillbilly-hippy type music.  I love it!

The venue is called the Kuranda Amphitheatre, and if you happen to be in the area I really recommend you check out a gig there.  It’s actually carved into a big hill in the rainforest, with the stage at the base.  It’s a pretty small venue, only fitting three or four thousand people, and there are no chairs or anything, people just sit on the grass and enjoy the show.

There are heaps of well-known bands that play pretty regularly there, including John Butler Trio, Ash Grunwald and Xavier Rudd, but honestly I reckon any band would be great to see there.  Sarah Blasko is the support act tonight, who I think is pretty awesome.

There’s another cool music venue you should check out if you go to Cairns, Queensland-Australia, and that’s The Tanks.  It’s actually been converted from big old water tanks so the acoustics are fantastic.

We’re going to stay the night tonight and camp at one of the camping grounds in Kuranda.  The weather here in Queensland-Australia is looking pretty good so far so we can’t wait to spend the afternoon by the campsite pool.

I love camping, don’t you?  I haven’t been for ages.  Last time I went camping was to Fitzroy Island in Queensland-Australia, which I admit was very cool. The campground there is right on the waterfront so you wake up to the beach.  There’s also a ritzy hotel you can swim at if you get sick of the beach, and heaps of walking tracks with 360 degree views.

In truth, there are loads of good camping grounds here in Queensland-Australia, some more off-the-beaten-track than others.  Another good one I recommend is just near Innisfail, it’s called Etty Bay, and it’s right on the beach and just so pretty it hurts.  We had an awesome weekend there once.  As well as spending our days swimming and nights talking by the campfire, one night we headed into the local pub for some beers and the publican was so drunk he could barely serve us.  Him and his wife were having major domestics and all the local yokels were putting there two cents in.  Very funny!

Well, I best be off, as my ride for tonight is about to head off.  We still need to hit the shops and get our supplies (think chips, BBQ gear and beer).  We have to set up camp before settling in for a very special night of music!
