Chris Hadfield returns to earth after cutting Space Oddity video

Chris Hadfield returned to earth to earth Monday after spending five months at the helm of the International Space Station.  He spent the time tweeting down to his earthling friends, playing his guitar and cutting videos.

Hadield has gone viral since his return as a popular Canadian public figure from his release of a parody of David Bowie’s Space Oddity.

In the video, Hadfield varies the lyrics slightly to brighten the story from the original version in which Major Tom, the fictitious astronaut goes missing in his space capsule.  Here’s Chris Hadfiel’s video:

Hadfield has been heralded as a hero and many, including Marc Garneau – fellow Candian Astronaut, suggested that hadfield could run for public office and become Canada’s  next Prime Minister.  This is not to say that we’ll see him do this anytime soon, just a vouch to say that Hadfield has become that popular with this latest achievment.

Here’s an Exerpt from TheStar.com:

Marc Garneau who, in 2000, was Canada’s first astronaut to visit the space station, has some ideas. He says he wouldn’t be surprised to see Hadfield follow his path into politics.

Some have even suggested to him that Hadfield could become prime minister tomorrow if he wanted.

“He’s certainly a very popular figure,” Garneau told the Toronto Star. “I’ve had numerous people say this to me. He has superstar status. I think he has the world by the tail.”

Garneau, however, has not spoken to Hadfield personally since he landed and has no idea if he has any interest in politics,

It is more likely that Hadfield will first be courted by a number of organizations with requests for personal appearances, speaking engagements and even book offers.

The Calgary Stampede announced last week that Hadfield will be the 2013 Stampede Parade Marshal, coming on the heels of a Twitter exchange between Hadfield and the Calgary Stampede officials.

Garneau also believes that Hadfield could become president of the Canadian Space Agency if he wanted.

He expects that Parliament will fete Hadfield at some point this year. “It wouldn’t surprise me if he takes a bow in Parliament.

As Canada’s first astronaut in space, Garneau never felt that his status would be diminished upon return.

And he doesn’t expect Hadfield’s star to dim anytime soon.

Hadfield’s achievment was a long time in the coming and is a perfect example of how dedication and hard work can pay off.  A valuable lesson for today’s younger generations.
