It’s safe to say no business sets out to purposely make marketing mistakes. These bad things just seem to happen on their own. Sometimes businesses do take certain risks and they know what they’re doing. One important part about marketing and advertising is you can protect yourself by simply using common sense, sometimes. This is not for sure, but you should be able to protect yourself by learning from errors that have been made by others. Information is very valuable and this is one of the smartest ways to stop advertising mistakes from happening.
The simplest mistakes will always cost you in some way, and here is one that is seen a lot. When visitors come to your website, you may not know what page they are on when they want to interact with you. So what many businesses do is only have the contact page link on the home page. So the visitor, who wants to contact you, if they can’t find the link to contact you, may become frustrated and leave. Your goal is to simplify your visitors experience on your website in every way that you can. Always make sure you follow this line of thinking, especially when building websites. You rarely get a second chance, especially if you make the visitor impatient.
Anyone that is trying to hard to do anything related to your business is actually making a grave mistake. Here’s why: Everybody hates to be sold to, especially in an aggressive manner. Perhaps you are not aware that you are doing it and that’s a valid possibility. Instead of being sold to, find someone that will actually talk to you, and give you relevant information. The inner alarm tends to go off when people see a hard sell coming their way. You want to engage people in a relationship, pre-selling to them, not selling. By doing this, you will have a very different outcome.
Your marketing cannot depend on the actions of your target audience. You may have heard that most customers must be exposed to a message something like half a dozen times before they take any action. While you have to be willing to reach out to people multiple times, you should do so with some discretion as well. Keep in mind that people tend to hesitate with decision making. Procrastination is simpler than making a definite decision one way or the other. No matter how you’re contacting people, you should consider following up an essential part of your marketing system. Don’t be afraid to give your prospect or lead a little nudge to keep the momentum going.
Everyone is bound to experience a few advertising mistakes and you are no exception to this rule. Even though they cannot be considered to be your best effort, you will never forget them. It’s one thing to read about the mistakes of others, and you say you’ll never do that. But, if you are not the one going through the pain, then you might not remember the mistake later on.
