Animals, fried food, games, and rides are all things associated with the State Fair.
State Fair
The first State Fair came about in the mid-1800’s, and at the time was a small gathering. It consisted of a few rides. Merry-go-round and the Ferris wheel, games such as duck pond and darts, and the side shows of bearded women, strong men, and two headed cows. Today’s State Fair may still have some of these but it is more about bringing money in for the local economy.
Every state in the United States has a State Fair. Usually taking place August to October every year, lasting between 9 to 16 days.
Things to do at the State Fair
Today, there are so many things to do at the State Fair. You have the animals such horses, cows, pigs, sheep, chickens, and rabbits. Each class offer different breeds of animals. Then you have all the exhibits. This includes baking, growing of fruits and vegetable, textiles (quilting and dress making), you have the wild life that is inclusive to that state, all the farm equipment used to grown that states corn, beans, cotton etc. The biggest attraction is the mid way. Where you can ride and ride and ride till your heart’s desire, on some rides if you dare.
State Fair Brings Out the Inner Child
I love going to the State Fair. To me the State Fair brings out the inner child in me. Gosh I would have so much fun going there when I was young. I still do, it’s just not the same type of fun. I don’t ride the rides like I use to. Those spinning ones just aren’t as fun as they use to be. I love going into the farm buildings and seeing how my great, great, great grandparents would have lived back in the day. Even though things were harder back then they just seemed like they would have been simpler.
It is fun to think about those days. The fair is a place where you can be a kid, if you let yourself be.
I have to say when I see the exhibits; there are some pretty talented people out there. The things they grow and make wow. Then all the animals that are out there earning their blue ribbons, that takes lots of work just to get them to that level.
The State Fair still draws a pretty good size crowd. When the weather is super hot, the attendance seems to be down slightly. Have lots of cool days, and that number soars.
When the economy is down, people will go to a place where they can escape. Once you pay to get into the fair, the only cost would be food, and any games you would play.
When you go to the State Fair you have to have some taffy, cotton candy, ice cream, and corn on the cob. The fair now days offers fried snicker candy bars among other goodies. What about the ice cream of the future…..dipping dots….yum.
So take a moment and go back in time by visiting your State Fair.
