I was not sure what I was going to write about today, knowing I have the gift for gab.
Baby Doll
When I was growing up I only remember playing with one baby doll, “Thumbelina”. I was the oldest of five girls, and my sisters always wanted to play with her. Of course I didn’t want them touching her because they just left her where ever. Well one day our dog got a hold of her, and you guessed it. No more Thumbelina. Gosh I loved that doll. I managed to get another on in my adult years from “Ashton Drake” a doll company. Anyway, I then switched over to “Barbie’s.”
Children
Since I was the oldest and my sisters always had to follow me around, spy on me, so on and so forth. I never gave any thought of children. When my husband asked me to marry him, we talked about having children, and we decided on two.
We both were in our late twenties when we got married. We weren’t married six months before he started in on having kids. Heck, I wasn’t ready to give up my freedom of sleeping in late, staying out late, and making that commitment just yet.
Funny though, we were married just a little over two years. I woke up one morning and said “okay I’m ready to do this.” In my family, us girls are “fertile myrtles.” So I got pregnant within six weeks of making my decision.
My daughter was born seven weeks early. She weighed three pounds, three ounces, and was in the special care nursery for three weeks and a day. She was early because I was in renal failure, and didn’t know it. I was advised to not have any more children, because they could come much earlier than her. My whole life changed once she was born.
Lucky
I was so lucky at the time to have a good paying job, which I was able to turn into a part time one. I wanted a boy, but God knew what he was doing when he gave me her. She was and still is my whole life, even though she is a young woman now.
Children are so precious and grow up to fast. Cherish each moment. I know it’s easier with one than with a lot. Spend as much time as you possibly can. Hold them and tell them every day, how much you love them, even when they grow up. I’m forever grateful that I had the ability to be with my daughter, and do things that I’m sure a lot of mothers don’t get to do.
Thank God every day for your precious children.
Blessings,
Carla
