What are the best fall flowers for you landscape? Here are my picks for the best fall flowers. These are pretty easy and carefree to grow. They are great to mix with your late blooming summer plants, and when they die you will have the best fall flowers showing some really good color in your garden.

Mums (Chrysanthemum)

Mums will bring a huge variety of bold color into the fall Landscape. You can find them in just about any color you could possibly want.

Mums are not picky about soil conditions as long as you keep them watered and they do not sit in puddles for too long. This is a must, and full sun is best, unless you are in a hot, humid climates shade would be better.

Aster

Asters are not very aggressive, but they do like to spread. You want to pinch Aster back early so they will get large mounds that are covered with flowers throughout the fall season. There are many colors to choose from.

Crocus

You may be very familiar with spring-blooming crocus, but there are some varieties that come up in the fall as well. Since they are smaller in size plant them in masses and watch them add tons of pale blue and purple hues to your fall Landscape!

Impatiens

Impatiens are not exclusively fall flowers, as they will bloom all summer long until frost nips them back. These are a great way to fill in the garden for multiple seasons. Since they come in a variety of colors and sizes they can be planted to easily fill in large empty spaces.

Since they don’t need a lot of sun, they are perfect for that partly shaded area beside a porch or out by a building or garage.

Chelone (Turtleheads)

These need to be well watered and by doing so you will be rewarded with an attractive mound of foliage that covers itself with little blooms shaped like tiny turtle heads. That is where this plant got the common name “turtleheads.”You can select from red, pink, and white turtleheads and they are genuine fall blooming flowers that hang on until frost.

The Best Fall Flowers can be versatile

Any of these types of flowers can be placed in the ground, or arranged in a container.  Adding fall flowers to you landscape not only spruces up your surroundings, when you look out you get to see additional the additional color of mother nature.

Now the warmer climates have options during the winter months, if we could only have some of those options in the colder climate regions. I love all the four seasons to a degree. My wish is that all days are 60 degrees in the evening, 80 degrees during the day, and the week before Christmas, get to 30 degrees with at least 6 inches of snow to have a White Christmas. But that is wishful thinking.

So in the meantime I will continue to take each season as God gives it.
