If you’re seeking a new way to get some exercise, consider taking up golf. Golf is an ideal sport for enjoying the great outdoors while having the opportunity to socialize with your buddies. Golfing not only allows one to work out the body but the game also strengthens one’s ability to focus mentally. Use this simple advice to become skilled at golf and make it an enjoyable activity.
One good golfing tip for those just starting out is to know and understand your tee height. If you haven’t set your tee height correctly, your drives won’t go as far. You should aim to have the golf ball be a little higher than the middle of the face of the club.
Grip your golf club in a neutral fashion. Lacking a tight enough grip on the club means your ball will often cut to the right of its target. Conversely, if you’re holding your golf club too loosely, your ball will veer to the left. In order to fix this, adjust the grip according to the direction of the shot.
Preserve your self esteem by competing only with people in your skill range. When you are first starting out, choose easy courses, and play with other beginners. Don’t crush your enthusiasm taking on tough courses and competing against those who are much better than you.
The next time you hit the green with your golfing partners, spice things up a bit by laying wagers on the game. Having the loser pay for lunch or drinks can make the game more exciting than just seeing who has the best score. Even if you do not put up a high-value prize, the motivation of an added prize may be enough to give an edge to the game.
Keep a proper stance. If you’re not sure, keep your feet still and tap your toes vertically. It should be possible to tap your feet with little effort. If it’s hard to do, then you’re leaning forwards too much; if it’s easy, then you’re leaning backwards too much.
While putting, use your left hand to guide the ball by making sure it is slightly in front of the ball. Hold this position as you swing the club, maintaining it throughout your stroke. This will help you maintain the appropriate grip on the club during your stroke, and will make it less likely that the ball will dart off of the face of the club during contact.
Before your shot, stand back and study where you’re going to send the ball. Be sure to also consider other factors such as the wind. Taking this extra time to think about your swing will significantly increase accuracy. You will then be able to more effectively get the ball to the spot where it needs to go.
If you have hit your ball onto the green from a long distance, look for divot marks, and repair any that you find. Sometimes the force of a ball hitting the grass causes holes or dips. This not only damages the grass, but makes it more difficult for the next player to successfully putt across the green. Take the time to repair the grass, flattening it with either a tee or a special tool for repairing divots.
Practice your swing when you can; try using a golf simulator when you can. Practicing your swing can help better your game, so keep swinging.
As stated above, golf is a great sport to get both physical and mental exercise while hanging out with friends outdoors. So, if you are looking forward to taking up an engaging new sport, look no further. These easy tips will help you start playing golf and be on your way to a happier, healthier you.
