Pack some clothespins for your next vacation. These are not typical travel gear, but they do come in handy.
Stay up as late as possible, or at least until around 8 o’clock in the evening, to help adapt to the time change. If you feel tired because of the change in time zone you can make it worse by going to bed too early. If you can quickly adjust to the new time, you will beat jet lag.
You’re never alone in a hotel. During your hotel stay, make sure to respect other guests by leaving and entering your room quietly and keeping conversations at a reasonable level. This courtesy will be greatly valued by others nearby who may not be on the same sleeping schedule. That doesn’t mean you have to be absolutely silent, but keep noise levels reasonable.
Travel candles are a great thing to pack if you’ll be visiting a hotel. These can improve the smell of an impersonal hotel room. It is relaxing and romantic, and may even help you fall asleep easier. A number of companies offer conveniently sized candles that don’t drip wax.
If you plan on visiting the National Parks often, it would be best to invest in a National Park Pass. For fifty dollars, you can visit all the parks all year long.
When traveling with your dog, always be sure that they are properly trained and acclimated to any sort of setting you may enter. Your pet should be leash trained and listen well; you should always keep them on a leash if you are around a lot of people. By having good control of your pet while traveling, you can be assured of his safety and well-being.
If you rent a car for a trip and bring small children with you, you should ensure that their car seats have been packed. If you do not bring them with you, you will likely have to purchase new ones just for the trip.
Weather can play a huge part in the amount of enjoyment you get out of traveling. Check the local weather forecast for your destination before traveling. This way, you can prepare for unpleasant surprises and plan alternate activities if the beach is too frigid or the ski slope is sweltering.
When changing currency, wait until you have arrived at your destination. If you know there won’t be a place to easily exchange currency once you land in your destination country, exchange a limited amount before you leave and then look for a better exchange rate once you arrive in-country.
