Simple Tips And Tricks To Help You With Your Dog

If you are a new dog owner, then you are surely curious about the best tips for dog training. Below are several ideas to help you begin your training journey.

It is possible to designate a specific indoor area for elimination, as well. Potty pads or papers must be set around the house, and gradually moved to the single place you have designated.

TIP! Understand why it is said that you can’t teach an old dog new tricks. When dog’s have learned certain behaviors over the years, or from a previous owner, it can take quite a while to alter said behavior.

Refrain from using extreme devices for training your dog, such as a shock collar. They almost never work as advertised and they are expensive to boot. They can also discourage good behaviors as they inhibit your dog’s behavior too much. Usually if you do this your dog will respond in the wrong way.

When you correct your dog verbally, try making those corrections short and straight to the point. Avoid going on a rant about the dog’s “badness”. Say no and give them a command to do the right thing. The tone of your voice should let them know you are serious about the command you are making.

In order to teach your pet how to sit, make him stand and hold the treat in front of it. As you allow the treat to move into his field of vision, your hand will slowly pass behind him. The dog will have to look up in order to follow the motion of your hand. Dogs naturally sit when they do this.

TIP! If your dog has an issue with barking, pay attention to potential triggers. Being aware of these triggers could make you address your pet’s behavior constructively.

Always give your dog a lot of attention and affection. If you do this your dog will know when you are happy. Praise liberally for good listening and good behavior. He’ll love the reaction and want to please you time and time again.

Make sure that your dog’s crate is the right size for him if you are going to use it to train him. Keep in mind that your puppy will eventually grow into a bigger dog. Select a crate that is large enough for them to fit in when they are older. They have to be comfortable moving around inside to ensure they aren’t crowded.

For each time you use your pets name in a negative way, such as a reprimand, make an effort to use it positively 2 or 3 times. Your pet needs to understand that his name can represent something good. He should not be afraid to come to you when he is called.

TIP! Dog training is a lifelong commitment. Before allowing your dog to eat, enjoy your affection or play outdoors, command him to sit.

As soon as your dog is bad, discourage the behavior right away. You must learn to tell your pet “No” in a very firm voice. You should never yell at your dog, nor strike your canine with your hand or any physical object. Make sure you correct the bad behavior immediately or as soon as you can after it occurs. Dogs do not remember things for long. If you take too long, he will not understand what it is you are trying to tell him.

Proper training your dog is attributed to consistent training throughout the dog’s entire life. Many people are under the misguided assumption that after their dog has completed obedience training, it will never need additional training. This is not the truth. All dogs experience a lifetime of learning, much like humans. Continue reinforcing training already given and reward the dog with an obedient life.
