Getting New Clients Through Social Media Networking

Restored from the Empower Network archive (2011–2017), lightly edited to meet our current advertising standards. Views are the original author’s.

Maintaining a social media presence can boost your company and help you reach more customers. Social networks allow companies to communicate with customers, as well feed them information directly related to the company. Social media marketing also enables easy distribution of marketing promotions.

Studies have shown that people read more posts during business hours than at any other time during the week. This does not mean that you have to compose your messages during these times; you can put them together whenever it is convenient and then use automatic updating tools to post them at the best times.

When people choose to follow your company’s page on Twitter, follow back. Do not treat your followers as mere customers. People will enjoy the fact that you are willing to pay attention to them. It only takes seconds to follow back on Twitter, but it gets your customers to see that you care about them.

Research what is being done by your competitors. Look into what they are doing on other social networks and figure out which techniques work for them. You could try doing the same thing they are to get to their audience, but you can also try to create a strategy that wasn’t thought of so far to get a better suited audience.

When you are working with social media you have to be patient. People need to have faith in you and what you are offering them. Just slow down and win them over one at a time. Before long, you’ll have a long list of clients.

Facebook Places was a now-defunct knockoff of Foursquare. It allowed Facebookers to check in at certain locations using their cell phones. Put up a Facebook account for your business, then encourage people to “like” your page. If they can prove that they did, give them a discount when they buy something from you. Consider using Foursquare to accomplish this practically automatically.

Make sure that you take the time to stay updated with your posts. Set up a schedule to post your content. If you can establish a reputation as a provider of fresh, relevant content, the audience will be more likely to revisit your blog or profile. Schedule the entries into your calender or other planner so your blog stays updated.

Make sure you participate in social media as a reader and commentator as well. This will give you an online presence, and show to the world that you have some expertise in that field. Make sure that you leave relevant comments that readers can benefit from and not useless fluff or spam. Congeniality is important, but helpfulness is what draws more traffic.

Use your profile to leave relevant comments on other bloggers’ posts and updates. Social media is all about interacting, staying in the public eye and being social. One easy way to become visible is to dialogue with others who blog in your niche. This can be a fabulous networking opportunity.

You should always remember that people who follow you on social media sites want you to pay attention to what they have to say. Suggestions from one or two customers might help you realize that others have the same advice as well. Responding lets them know you are listening to their needs.

While it is extremely important to offer customers valuable incentives, it is equally important to avoid seeming overly pushy. People that are looking to be customers don’t want to feel pressured or like they are being sold to. A weekly sale or incentive at a set time each week will attract customers. This allows you to offer discounts without your customers feeling coerced or spammed.

It is important to let potential customers feel comfortable, by allowing them to gradually get to know your company. A visitor to your site will probably leave if they have to share personal information when first entering your page. If the first steps are easy, they will grow into something positive for your company and will stick with it.

Social Media

The benefits of your business maintaining and creating an identity in social media networks are very important from a marketing and brand recognition standpoint alone. You can reach customers a lot easier through social media, and these venues mean finding more customers than older advertising channels allow.
