I took the floor for about 15 minutes speaking on…

“Using technology as an extension of yourself”

I introduced the team to the concept of extensions by describing a simple project of building a wood shed and showed them how to translate that thinking to manual processes we use to manage our lives.

THE PROJECT:

To successfully build a wooden shed, you wouldn’t use your hands to hammer nails or to saw boards in half.

Instead, you would extend yourself (hands) by purchasing tools, such as a hammer, screw driver, hand saw, etc.

Some processes can be refined further by upgrading your tools.

For example: you can purchase, as a replacement to the hammer, a nail gun; as a replacement to the screw driver, a power drill;  and as a replacement to the hand saw, maybe a rip saw.

The point is…

Tools became an extension of you to help you accomplish a specific task.

Now lets, translate this same idea to technology.

First, you need to think about what you currently do and how you do it, then look for tools within technology to help translate the manual processes.

For example:  If you write down your tasks and goals on paper, think about how you do that.  Then, go to your mobile device (laptop, iPad, Android, etc.)  and search your device for tools within your respective app market.

The creator of the Chrome browser is Google and Google, as you know it, is all about “The Cloud”.

All of Google’s applications (software) and services are on the Internet.

If you open Chrome and do a search for “Chrome Store” and then enter the Chrome store, you will see a library of free tools you can use to manage your life.

Many of the apps found in the Chrome Store can be found on the Android Phone & Tablets and even the iPad & iPhone.

So, what you do within your browser will automatically synchronize with your mobile device, visa-versa.

When you learn to use technology as an extension of self , you take your data with you everywhere, which can potentially raise your productivity when you use them regularly.
