Plate Spinner Excellente’

Restored from the Empower Network archive (2011–2017), lightly edited to meet our current advertising standards. Views are the original author’s.

If you’re the right age, you will remember watching plate spinners on the Ed Sullivan show on TV. It was a crazy act – a guy would place spinning plates on top of wooden poles that were lined up in a row. He’d start at one end, get a plate spinning fast enough so it wouldn’t fall off and move to the next pole. As he made his way down the row, he’d have to run back to the first plate and give it another spin to keep it from falling, then the next and the next, then back to the end to start another one. The guy was frantic, frenzied, hyper, wild – never still for a moment!

Ever feel like a plate spinner? Boy! I sure have! When I was raising my kids, I ran from here to there, back and forth . . . piano lessons, scouts, yard mowing, little league, 4-H, marching band, doctor visits, dance recitals, sleepovers, birthdays, church camp . . . cooking, cleaning, and keeping the constant stream of never ending laundry going.

Plate spinning syndrome is a common occurrence in the home business industry, especially for someone just starting out. As you sort through all the tips and tools and webinars and books for building a home business – for help with social media marketing, fan pages, videos, emails, capture pages, sales pages, lead generation, SEO, and on and on and on – you soon have a long row of plates to keep spinning.

Then, When the frantic, frenzied, hyper and wild feelings hit, the overwhelmed man or woman does something pretty unbelievable . . . he/she looks for something else – some other program or product that will surely make all this easier

. . . and the cycle continues until eventually, the plates come crashing down and the dream that once motivated and inspired drifts away. It happens to the majority of home business owners.

So, what is the cure for this crazy syndrome? It’s focus. It might take putting on some blinders to keep your focus strong – keep you from jumping from one plate (program) to the next. Focus on one thing at a time, learn how, and implement it. Don’t try to perfect everything at once. You’ll end up frustrated and frantic and worn out from running back and forth among all those shiny plates!

Stay tuned . . . we’ve got simple tools to share that have helped us stay focused and on track with building our home business. We are here – ready to help you reach your dream. What’s your greatest frustration? What do you want to know more about?
