Flipping The Switch…

Restored from the Empower Network archive (2011–2017), lightly edited to meet our current advertising standards. Views are the original author’s.

Do you remember this time in your life . . . when you graduated from being a little kid?

I sure do! It was the Christmas of 1965 . . . I was ten years old.

There is an old black and white photo of all six of us kids sitting in front of the
Christmas tree, holding the gifts we had just opened from Santa. My little brothers and sister are holding up race cars and Barbies and there I sit – frowning – holding up my arm to display the watch I received. Big whoop-to-do! I realized that I had grown to big for Santa, too big for toys and I didn’t like it one bit!  Good-bye toys – hello practical.

Little kids always want to be older . . . most of the time. A toddler wants to be older so he can go to school like his older sister. An eight year old wants to be twelve so she can ride in the front seat of the car. A twelve year old wants to be sixteen so she can drive. A sixteen year old wants to be eighteen so he can move out on his own.
An eighteen year old wants to be twenty-one so he can legally drink. On and on it goes.

Until, a thirty-year-old wants to be twenty again. A forty-year-old wants to be thirty . . .
a fifty-year-old wants to be forty.

It’s not just an age thing. We spend most of our lives longing for our dream of the perfect job, the perfect spouse, the perfect car, the perfect vacation, etc.

Here’s a simple truth based on the Law of Attraction:

If one focuses on what isn’t . . . what isn’t becomes one’s reality.

For example, if your emotions and thoughts come from “I can’t find the perfect husband,” your subconscious hears those words as a true statement – and delivers what you’ve ordered . . . you end up exactly where you don’t want to be – without a husband.

If you are always saying, “I’m so tired,” your subconscious hears those words and they become your reality . . . YOU ARE ALWAYS TIRED!

If you say, “I never have enough money,” guess what . . . you never have enough money.
Try reframing your statements. Instead of “I can’t” and “I don’t” and “I’m always” negative statements, change them to positive “I am” statements. And make your “I am” statements positive.

It’s a simple tweak with great rewards. Try it.

You can train your mind to do this. It’s called flipping the switch.

When you hear yourself saying those words that reflect what you don’t want, flip the switch – turn it around to reflect having or being or doing what you desire. Your subconscious does not sift through your thoughts and statements to sort out the negative ones. It works to fulfill everything you think and say.

Instead of “I HAVE to go to work” say “I GET to go to work!”

Instead of “I hate dealing with money” say “I love dealing with money!”

Instead of “I always make mistakes” say “I learned something new today!”

Instead of “I can’t lose weight” say “I AM losing weight!”

Instead of “I always get sick” say “I am healthy!”

And, then . . . do this as well. Pay it forward. Give those positive statements to those around you.

Give a compliment.

Express your appreciation for someone’s incredible knowledge.

Tell your kids and grandkids they are going to accomplish great things in their lives.

Help others by speaking positive, affirmative words into their subconscious. Especially the kids. They are sponges – soaking up every word and feeling expressed in their presence. Those words and emotions become engrained in their subconscious and become part of their belief system. Imagine what it does to a child to always be told, “You are such a trouble-maker.”

Words can hurt or heal, words can build or break down.

Flip the switch. Make a difference in your life and in the lives of others.
