My response to change

Restored from the Empower Network archive (2011–2017), lightly edited to meet our current advertising standards. Views are the original author’s.

Marketing is the future.

I have pretty much accepted the fact that life in the 21 century is becoming less and less about credentials, and more and more about marketing.

As the industrial revolution comes to an end, to stand out and be heard requires more than you getting a piece of high level qualification – it’s now more grass roots than that.

Stand out requires that you be connected to people on an real level, and understanding what people really want and need.

The problem with this is that however, is that there’s no map. There is no path to follow. The good news is that none of that matters because the only thing you need is desire.

Desire to dig deep and be the change that you would like to see in the world.

Another important thing to remember is that you’re not alone.

People everywhere are starting to notice that things that once worked, are no longer working. The strategies we once used to get ahead are becoming weaker and weaker.

We all have the option to either

a) ignore it b) fight it c) take action now that will deliver us a reward in the future

I’ve gone ahead and taken early action, on what I foresee as an immanent change in the way the world operates.

This new mode of operation will be more dependent on an individuals ability to perform and deliver results and as such productivity worldwide will become more efficient.

In this performance based economy, all the responsibility will be placed on the individual and less on circumstances.

Lets face the facts, most of us have our basic needs taken care of. What will allow you to stand out will not be your ability to fit in and take instructions but your ability to deliver results and solve problems people didn’t know they had.

A big part of this, I believe is marketing. Your ability to attract clients is primarily dependent on your ability to demonstrate in a way that your client understands, that they will receive more value from the transaction than the money they are paying.

This is not deception. This is value-based marketing. This is a skill.

I’ve started my marketing journey and have started to pick up a couple things along the way, that I have chosen to share with you.

Bear in mind that I was a complete newbie to business and marketing, and while my discoveries may sound commonplace to a few, they came as revolutions to me.

Here are 3 things I’ve come to understand when it comes to marketing online

1. People are interested in themselves – there’s nothing bad or good about that, it’s just the way it is.

2. People are very distracted – they have a lot other ‘things’ in front of them competing with yours, so your blog headline has to be able to cut through the noise and grab the attention of your reader.

3. People are lazy – they don’t want to have to figure out how they will benefit, they’d rather just not bother.

If you ever feel compelled to learn this new skill of marketing and promotion, be sure to take into account what your target audience wants, how they will notice you, and what their reaction will be to what you have to say.

And remember that while change will always happen around us, change doesn’t determine your future, it’s your response to change that does.

Regards,

Brian Morris
