Record Store Day

Today is record store day. Seriously? You’ve never heard of record store day? Honestly, neither have I. Found out about it just by being curious on YouTube, as usual. And it’s only 5 years old.
 
This is a subject right up my alley. I loved vinyl records when I was a kid. I was brought up by vinyl records. I know, that sounds weird but I kid you not. My mom had one of the best record collections I’ve ever seen. I grew up (in Poland) listening on vinyl to The Beatles (hard to believe but I grew up on The Beatles), Queen, Elvis, ABBA (yes ABBA) still have those records, LOL.
 
The record you see on the left was my first record that my mom bought me when I was 9 years old. Polish rock band called Lady Pank, they were inspired by The Police. Their biggest hit “Minus Zero.” This music video is actually dubbed in English, too funny. Just like a book is always better than the movie, music in it’s original language is always much better. Here’s their legendary hit, “Zawsze Tam Gdzie Ty” translation, “Always There Where You’re At”.
 
In the 80′s Poland came out with some great music and I collected most of those records. That year that I bought the Lady Pank record, I also went to their concert at the age of 9. How cool is that. They’ve been to Chicago a couple of times and I missed it. Would love to have that record autographed.
 
When we left Poland I was 10 years old and had an incredible collection of vinyl records. Unfortunately, had to leave most of them behind because of the weight. My mom was in charge of the packing and she picked the records that we took with us randomly. She left The Beatles and Queen behind, so sad.
 
When I came to America I continued to collect vinyl records. I probably have the most diverse collection of records. I always loved world music especially folk and gypsy (yes I said gypsy and yes I may be a geek ) My collections includes vinyl records from Poland, Germany, Romania, Hungary, Russia, and I can go on and on. For crying out loud, I have the Indiana Jones Temple of Doom story on vinyl and of course some Star Wars stuff,too.
 
I still own the original ABBA records that came out 1974-1977. These were in my mom’s record collection
 
So, if you like vinyl records, go out and support your local record store today or this weekend or this coming up week. Just tell them Bart sent you and they will think you’re nuts LOL.
 
Guess what? Blogging today is as HOT as disco dancing to ABBA in ’77. ABBA was HOT, BLOGGING is HOT! Start disco dancing, start blogging!
