Today marks the 3 year anniversary of Michael Jacksons death. Michael died in his home of cardiac arrest by an overdose of prescription drugs administered by his personal physician. His physician would later be convicted of involuntary manslaughter.
Even after his death, Michael Jackson will forever hold a spot as one of the (if not THE) greatest artists of all time. His style of music and dance forever changed the music industry. He was unique and had a style all his own. He was music royalty.
His music career began at the early age of 5 as the youngest member of The Jackson 5. Michael was born with something special and it didn’t take long before people took notice. He was charismatic, talented and you couldn’t help but watch if he was performing.
His life was not without trial. There have been extensive allegations, from inside the family as well, of abuse at the hands of their father Joe Jackson, who demanded perfection. Making them practice non stop.
Michael also dealt with body image insecurities and underwent multiple operations and procedures to change his appearance.
In 1993 and again in 2003 he would face charges of child molestation. The 1993 charges would be settled out of court and in 2003 would find him acquitted of all charges.
Despite his many obstacles, Jackson would reign supreme as the king of pop. He performed to sold out stadiums of thousands and sang for royalty all over the world.
Perhaps one of his most famous career songs is Thriller, which also had a short film. It is cited as being one of the influential music videos of all time.
Michael Jackson would marry twice and have three children. He married Lisa Marie Presley (daughter of Elvis Presley) on May 18, 1994. They would later divorce on January 18, 1996 due to irreconcilable differences. They had no children together. Michael would later marry nurse Debbie Rowe in Australia on November 15, 1996. They had two children together, Prince Michael Joseph Jackson Jr. born 1997 and Paris Michael Katherine Jackson born in 1998. Michael and Debbie Rowe would divorce in 1999 also due to irreconcilable differences. He also had a child, Prince Michael Jackson II aka Blanket, born in 2002 from a surrogate mother.
At the time of his death, Michael was planning a comeback tour called This Is It. rehearsals were underway. There is now a movie about it by the same name.
The tragedies that followed him in life and in death will not over shadow the larger than life star that he was. His contributions to the world of music will be remembered for generations to come.
He is the true King Of Pop.
