Being Homeless, How did this happen?
Earlier this year I lost my job due to having medical problems and excessive absences! I lived off my income tax return as long as I could! Then by April, I couldn’t hold on any longer and lost my apartment, and my dignity. I was embarrassed and ashamed of the fact that even though I couldn’t help it, I let my kids down.
Being homeless was something I never thought would happen to me! I struggled for a long time to find a place to go.. My kids and I lived in my car until that also broke down, and I couldn’t afford to fix it… so I sold it to the scrap yard.. that helped pay for a hotel stay here and there.. and food. I could no longer get state aid since I had no address to claim. Luckily I had a friend who let me stay with her on the living room floor for a time, until her apartment manager told her I had to leave. I was scared at what to do next.. I was working a new job, but all the money I was making was paying my friend for letting us stay with her and the food we ate there. I couldn’t save up to get myself a place.
I found it extremely difficult to admit to my family that losing my last job was the cause of me being homeless. But I finally had to..
When I told my younger brother about my situation, he couldn’t fathom the fact of being homeless.. with kids even! He was upset that I didn’t say something before then.. it was my pride. Shame, embarrassment and loss of self worth. He offered his apartment to me for a time.. then he decided he would move into a home with his girlfriend and said I could stay there for free if I helped him pack up his apartment and clean it! YOU BET!! I knew that would allow me to save up some money to get out on my own again! It worked! Yet.. the job I was in was costing me more money at that point than I was making, so I had to leave that job and just live off of any child support and book royalties I got.
The struggles of being homeless
It was a struggle every day planning things to do when you have absolutely nothing! I told my children, let’s pretend we are on a deserted island and we need to go on daily adventures to explore the area.. find out what there was out there! Oooh.. it was exciting at first until the realization of being homeless sunk in once again.
I’m so blessed with children who love me unconditionally.. they never once complained about the situation, not once! They just enjoyed having me there to do things with. I held them close every night.. and thanked them for their patience. Being homeless has taught me the value of unconditional love. It’s hard to come by in this world. Loving someone so deeply no matter the circumstance. There is only ONE being that I have known that has that kind of love and it’s My Savior! If it wasn’t for Him and my children, I wouldn’t have made it through being homeless! After all Jesus knows first hand how being homeless feels!
One day it hit me! I need to pull myself up from this devastation.. Tired of using my
friends for help, tired of calling mom and dad for money, tired of being tired!! Being homeless was one of the most difficult challenges I’ve faced in my life! I needed to get creative.. so I did! I came to learn of the Empower Network Blogging platform and had seen proof of earnings from countless people in the network! I knew that I could do this!
Being homeless made me desperate!! Just like being under water and wanting to breathe! I had to come up for air to survive! So I made the decision to get my own blogging platform and the rest is history! I love writing, it’s going back to what I have always loved to do! I am finally able to work from home regardless of my kidney disease and other medical problems! This is the IDEAL opportunity for those who have to work from home due to lack of money for childcare, disability, social anxiety, and so forth!
