Embracing My Fear

Restored from the Empower Network archive (2011–2017), lightly edited to meet our current advertising standards. Views are the original author’s.

I just want to say that I’m glad at that fact that not only did I face my fear, I embraced it. I’m thankful for my dad and my step-dad for guiding me to & on the right path. And my younger brother, Joshua, for helping realize the mistake I was making.

Both my dad and my step-dad are proud of me but I am mainly proud of myself. I was scared to play football and doubting myself a little at the same time. And even though I had to see somebody else make the same mistake I made, in order to come to my senses, I faced my fear by just going out there and doing it anyway.
If I hadn’t have just went ahead and played football, I wouldn’t have met the people I met on the team. I’m slowly making friends with a few people on the team. I probably wouldn’t have random girls coming to me to ask if I was on the football team.

I just hope I’ll be my own guide one day. As a matter of fact, I am my own guide and I’m a damn good navigator.

I couldn’t believe myself though.
Football is something I love. I’ve played it for years and I have a natural talent for Football. And to think that I was going to quit because I was scared is just infuriating and idiotic to me.

But my point is this, it’s a great feeling to know that you have faced one of your greatest fears and not only that, it’s an even better feeling when you have embraced it. And if you don’t face and embrace your fear(s), you might be missing out on something great.
PS: If, at anytime, it may seem you have gained nothing from facing you’re fear(s), you have gained your pride and dignity back. You lost both, when you were being fearful in the first place.
