Things Are Working Out For Me

Has anyone else noticed that there are times when things are working out? When it is really very clear that events that happened in the last 24 hours seem to have conspired to help you have a good day or week or month, or hey; why not – life?

I’ve mentioned on several posts that I enjoy listening to and learning from Abraham Hicks. There is a difference between listening to and learning from. Sometimes I am absolutely “world weary” – the push pull of how I want my life to be and “reality” or the way I’m seeing it at the time are mega units apart and listening can be soothing, comforting, uplifting without requiring me change just then.

Learning from pulses with eagerness, brims with life, has ideas churning and for one within whom mania can lurk, sometimes all that really needs to be toned down. Not always, though. Fortunately, either mania needs to sleep also, or it has run off with the Lear jet salesman, and I am free! I am free from being way way over the top on everything!

So back to the delightful mix for the recipe: things are working out.

I am a real believer now. I know HOW things work out. The subtlety I had to learn was focus. It’s what the majority of us muck up, I would guess. The computer age affects a lot of us with more impatience and the habit of rushing faster than to focus on that inner knowing of things are working out.

I had two events yesterday where timing mattered very much to me. Two events where I erred in my judgment. Two events where I could have been inconvenienced major and one where I could have really “freaked” my seven year old grandson. Two events where things spiraled out of my control and one where I had blessed help from a stranger.

Things work out! My father used to phrase it “everything will come out in the wash”. After he passed away, I became aware what a comfort that was to my mother as she was able to reflect on it for herself. She found things are working out as she thought about him in times of stress.

Yesterday, I felt strongly the need for things to work out for me, when it looked like it would be inevitable I would be late for a doctor’s appointment. I hate going to doctors, this was sprung on me at the last minute for me to be able to transfer clinics, and I certainly did not want to have to make another appointment.

As it turned out, I had very close to an hour, transferring buses and walking some of the way, to turn my attention inward on my intention that things are working out. Each time my thought came with a smile and a feeling of being reassured, so when I learned people at the clinic were confused as to my appointment time, another patient had arrived early and been seen and no one was inconvenienced at all, I felt real relief that things work out.

Whew! Things Are Working Out!

I had not expected to be challenged so quickly after I was congratulating myself on my first conscious victory. No sitting on my laurels were in order!

If Things Are Working Out . . . .

No, no, no, I’ve spent too much of the last couple of years, even after vowing to be positive no matter what, doing that, “I’m the prosecutor, judge and jury” schtick. AND, I just had a spectacular display of things working out! Besides, I really need this one!

Through pure self-absorption I had made a number of errors – a comedy of errors for anyone without a personal vesting in the outcome. I had gone past where I really should have turned west to head back, I had dallied too long over my lunch, I had possibly missed the bus I needed by three minutes (really?) when it would be another half hour before the next would come.

Where Was My Commitment to Things Are Working Out for Me?

Oh, there it was! Under those old habits of self-flagellation. Under the game of who could get the most hysterical, do the most awful-i-zing, need to wear the crown of thorns the longest. I have to say my new friend things are working out pushed straight up from underneath all that, and I reached down and grabbed hold hard and pulled it up and out.

Knowing Things are Working Out is so Way Worth It!

I so did not want my grandson to have to pay emotionally for my being an air head and worse. I knew he really did not want to have to wonder a second if I would be there to walk him home from school where he’s a second grader. It’s funny, when I told him later I had focused and focused and focused on things are working out, he said that’s a “cool” thing to do.

Fortunately, I had not missed the bus, though I ended going south out of my way three miles before finally heading west and going two miles rather than just the one I had pictured in my mind, then north two and a half miles before a breakneck (well, it sure felt like it) paced walk, all out of breath, red-faced and sweaty trek to the school. Still, definitely, oh, man, let me stress that big-time; things are working out, especially compared to what so easily could have been instead!

The real piece de resistance was when I had to change to a northbound bus while doing some kind of funny crab type “mincing” run behind a young man who’d heard me leave a message on the phone to my son and decided to get off at the same stop and chance being able to run across the intersection while hailing the next bus and getting the driver to wait for me. No Olympic hopeful are I! Whewee! Don’t even suggest other than things are working out for me.

If you didn’t have a father with his own phraseology for things are working out and no one ever shared the time honored wisdom with you before that things work out, you’ve been enriched by reading this blog post. No you can go forth and prove it to and for yourself. It will make you smile. It will bring you happiness. You’ll begin to notice things are working out.
