Brian Tracy – How To Get On To The Fast Track

Restored from the Empower Network archive (2011–2017), lightly edited to meet our current advertising standards. Views are the original author’s.

Have you ever noticed how we seem to have our own thoughts on how things work?

We have our own ideas on how life works, how success works and exactly what we need to do to make it happen.

And then, over time, things don’t seem to be working out for us quite as well as what we thought they would.

For some reason, our ideas are challenged. We start questioning our own ability.

The problem is that when we start questioning ourselves, the natural order of events is to quit.

Why?

Because we all have this in built mechanism called Self Preservation.

And self preservation dictates that we do not like pain, we avoid pain at all costs, and if something is painful, like asking ourselves the hard questions as to why we are not succeeding at something. We tend to concentrate on something less painful.

But then something happens that jolts our system, we maybe see someone who is not as smart as us succeeding at something and being successful in their path.

And what do we think?

If they can do it, and they are not as smart as me, just watch what I can do!

Have you ever felt like that?

I’m sure you have.

Here is the key though.

Success Is A Journey!

The person who we see succeeding didn’t start succeeding overnight.

Brian Tracy:

You can achieve anything in life by taking it one oil barrel at a time.

In the Sahara desert, there is a track that runs across it to insure against people getting lost, and driving unknowingly into the wilderness until they run out of petrol / gas, and they invariably die in the desert.

The track has 55 gallon oil barrels positioned 5 kilometres apart. This is the distance at which the curvature of the earth is, and at any time you can only see 2 barrels, the one you have past and the one you are driving towards.

It was during this journey across the Sahara that Brian Tracy got one of his biggest life lessons.

7 Rules To Success

1. Set Your Goal and Launch
– The first key is to get started, don’t wait for all the ducks to be in a row or all the lights to be on green, simply get going and get some feedback, fast.
2. Once You’ve Launched Never Consider The Possibility of Failure
– Always forward, never backward.
Know from the outset that you are going to have setbacks and it is how you respond to them that will determine the outcome. If you know at the beginning that there will be setbacks and obstacles, it will not be a surprise when they show up.
3. The biggest goal can be achieved “one oil barrel at a time”
– Keep going as far as you can see, and when you get there you will be able to see further. You will never know it all, and you don’t have to, simply enough to get to the next point.
4. Watch out for the “nay-sayers”
– Fly with the eagles, not with the turkeys. There will always be people who will tell you that you can’t do it. But did you know that there are also people who will tell you that you can. Seek them out.
– By the way, I am here to tell you that you can achieve anything you want in life, and you can join me here.
5. Welcome difficulties
– Obstacles and difficulties come not to obstruct, but to instruct
– Any achievement was proceeded with many difficulties and problems
– These lessons are the price of success
6. Be clear on the goal, but flexible on the process to achieve it
– Be willing to change and correct your course
– It’s not what happens but how you respond to what happens
7. No one does it alone
– Every person has had help from others
– Don’t be afraid to ask for help
– Keep your mind open

Success is a probability, not a possibility, when you realise that you can work with the right people in the right opportunity that pays well.
