Well the ongoing Rick Nash saga that has been brewing since January is finally over. What tops the NHL headlines today is Nash to New York<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Rick the Columbus Blue Jacket is now Rick the Ranger. The New York Rangers that is.<\/p>\n Today on Monday, July 23rd, the Columbus Blue Jackets sent their captain to the Big Apple and in return, the New York Rangers sent the other way, Brandon Dubinsky, Artem Anisimov, defenceman Tim Erixon and a first-round pick in next years 2013 NHL draft.<\/p>\n This trade ends months of speculation where the star forward would end up. Dating back to January when it was first discovered that Nash wanted out of Columbus, the rumors had started swirling heavily.<\/p>\n Many expected that the 6\u20194\u2033 forward would be dealt before the trade deadline. Many teams threw their hat into the ring to land the big power forward but all of them said the same thing after their offer was denied.<\/p>\n The price for Nash is just way too high<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n How high?<\/p>\n Well, 29 teams were interested in the service Rick Nash could provide but no one team was able to pull the trigger.<\/p>\n The buzz around the NHL at that time was that some teams had offered a lot for #61 but their offers were still rejected.<\/p>\n So every team interested at that time picked up their hats and hung them on the shelf till July 1st, 2012\u2026 better known as, Free Agent Frenzy.<\/p>\n Even though Nash wasn\u2019t becoming a free agent, far from it with 5 years still left on his eight year deal making him 7.8 million a season, many thought if a deal would be made, it would be done at them time when most teams were cleaning up their roster and bolstering their team for the up and coming season.<\/p>\n After July 1 had come and gone, Rick Nash was still captain (not sure if he would be if the season started) of the Blue Jackets.<\/p>\n Days after though, Mr. Nash had released a short list of 6 teams he would like to go to. How nice of him.<\/p>\n Those teams were the Detroit Red Wings, New York Rangers, Boston Bruins, San Jose Sharks, Philadelphia Flyers and the Pittsburgh Penguins.<\/p>\n Notice a trend there?<\/p>\n Those 6 teams all have all-star play making centermen.<\/p>\n Guess you can\u2019t blame the guy but\u2026 wait\u2026 isn\u2019t Rick Nash from Canada? You know\u2026 that big pink blob on the map that eats and sleeps hockey? Hmmmm\u2026.<\/p>\n Guess he\u2019s saying that all 7 teams in Canada suck. Maybe he has a point but for most people, playing hockey in a hockey crazy place is a dream come true. More on this later though.<\/p>\n What the New York Rangers Get:<\/strong> Nash to New York gives them another stud winger. I say \u201canother\u201d because they do have Marian Gaborik but let\u2019s face it, he was a total ghost in the playoffs. Many people were suggesting the Rangers, if they had a rockstar scorer in their line up, could have beat New Jersey AND gone on to win the Stanley Cup.<\/p>\n Rick Nash playing with center Brad Richards and Marion Gaborik could potentially be the best line in the league next year. On paper, the deal is looking pretty good for New York but don\u2019t forget what Columbus gets:<\/p>\n What the Columbus Blue Jackets Get:<\/strong> Heading to Ohio are centers Brandon Dubinsky, Artem Anisimov, defenceman Tim Erixon and a first-round pick in 2013. Not the blockbuster names you would expect to hear in a \u201cNash to New York\u201d deal but these are roster players ready to be put in the Blue Jackets line up.<\/p>\n Dubinsky and Anisimov will immediately be placed in the top 6 forwards. In New York, they were toggled between the 3rd and 2nd line but mostly found spots on the 3rd and 4th. Tim Erixon, an up and coming D-man, could find a permanent home on the blue line for the Blue Jackets.<\/p>\n With this deal, Columbus gets a 1st round pick and now has a total of 3 first round selections in the 2013 draft. After seeing this, I think this was a good deal for both teams.<\/p>\n So who got the better deal?<\/p>\n In my opinion\u2026 I think Columbus got the better deal.<\/p>\n I may be eating my words this time next year but you gotta think\u2026<\/p>\n Rick Nash wanted out of Columbus. He may have got thrown under the ColumBUS by GM Scott Howson when he told the media that Nash wanted out but Rick Nash also said a very confusing comment:<\/p>\n \u201cThe biggest thing is that when management said when they were going to make a rebuild and a reshape, I thought the best thing for the team and the organization would be to get assets for me, and I thought it would be best for my career.\u201d If you ask me, this is just me talking, but I think Dick Rash, sorry, my bad, Rick Nash is a bit of a baby.<\/p>\n I can understand why you want out of Columbus\u2026 I get that.<\/p>\n But why not go to a team in Canada? He is from a suburb of Toronto\u2026 why not go there?<\/p>\n My conclusion\u2026 he can\u2019t handle the pressure in a crazy hockey market. He\u2019s gotten so used to being under the radar where he can have a shitty game or 7 in a row and no one cares.<\/p>\n Have one of those in Canada and you will hear about it. On the front page of every news paper and on the news. It\u2019s what we do up here. We love hockey.<\/p>\n Some of you may think, \u201cWell I wouldn\u2019t want people talking bad about me.\u201d<\/p>\n You may have to take the odd criticism playing puck in a hockey market.
