Our government is focusing on gun control and taking away our Second Amendment right to bear arms. Focusing on the gun issue will not keep tragic events from happening in our school or anywhere else for that matter. Focusing on finding ways to deal with the mental health issues in this country would better serve the people of this country. While have a more in depth background check would be a great place to start, it can not stop there. As we look back at the tragic events that have plagued this country with the loss of lives, it wasn’t a gun issue, it was a mental health issue and as much as we would like to deceive ourselves into believing that having stricter gun control laws will keep this from happening, it won’t. When you have individuals that have mental health issues intent on causing harm, if a gun is not available they will find other means to accomplish their intent. There are to many other alternatives on the internet these days that they would have other choices and we would still end up with other tragic events and the loss of lives.

Gun Control and What Would Really Happen

If we impose stricter gun control laws in this country what will happen is citizens that should have the right to protect themselves will lose that freedom and those involved in the criminal arena will still have access to guns. If we will stop and take a good hard look around us we will see that those involved in criminal activities have access to weapons and would continue to have access, and those intent on killing others will still be able to get possession of weapons. Our government is not going to be able to fix this countries problems by controlling the rights of the citizens of this country the right to bear arms. Unfortunately, we have politicians that are playing off of peoples emotions, they are career politicians and are more concerned about their careers than they are about truly representing the people. There are a few politicians that are stilled concerned for the people, but they are few and far between. The families that have lost loved ones and those who have been injured because of a gunman have a strong emotional tie to the events that have happened to them, but taking the rights of law abiding citizens away will not change what happened to them, it will however create other situations in this country to could have a more devastating effect.

Gun Control and Mental Health

The mental health of the individuals that have brought such travesty to our country needs to be the focus of this country. We have at our fingertips the means to aide those suffering with mental health problems and yet they are falling through the cracks. We have to ask ourselves why is that . I love our country but we have a lot of concerns that need to be addressed and the mental health of our citizens needs is one of them. We as a country need to have a better understanding of mental health issues, what to look for, who to contact when we see warning signs in those around us, and we need to know that those we contact are going to take actions. If we will study the events that have already taken place it will be obvious that warning signs were missed or the proper action was not taken when the matter was brought to the attention of those who could have intervened.

Gun Control and Our Rights

The second amendment has a purpose and that purpose is to allow us the right as citizens of this country to protect ourselves. While more arduous action needs to be taken with background checks and mandatory training should be required taking our rights to bear arms will not solve the problem of tragic events taking place in our country. While this may not be a popular stance to take on this issue we need to step away from our emotions connected to the gun control issues and take a realistic view of what would be in the best interest of the citizens of this country. Let’s work towards getting help for those with mental health issues, proper training for those who own guns and a better understanding of why as a country we have had so many tragic events take place. We need to understand that should the rights to bear arms of the citizens of this country be taken away the criminal element in this country will still have access to illegal weapons and then how are we going to protect ourselves. As a country we need to ask ourselves what would we do to protect ourselves if a foreign entity decides to invade our land, how will we protect ourselves then, our military can not be everywhere at once. There are many questions that we need to ask ourselves, because changes need to be made, but what is the most effective route to bring about those changes.

Gun Control, Second Amendment and Mental Health Gun Control is a hot topic right now and this blog may not be what is known as politically correct, it is still a view that needs to be heard.
