Wouldn\u2019t it feel great?\u00a0 Wouldn\u2019t you love to have an unshakable sense of purpose, identity and direction when it comes to meeting and interacting with your partner?\u00a0 Here are a few tips to move you in that direction.<\/p>\n
Always start with you.<\/p>\n
If you are absolutely sure of what you want, you won\u2019t feel nervous about making relationship decisions.\u00a0 The more certain you become about what you want in a relationship and a partner, the more confidence you will feel about setting boundaries, asking for what you want, or pursuing someone who might or might not reciprocate your interest.<\/p>\n
Embrace \u201cFailure\u201d<\/p>\n
Letting go of fear becomes easier when you accept \u201cfailure\u201d as a valuable strategy.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Dorothea Brande has been quoted for her famous statement on the best method to achieve success, \u201cAct as though it is impossible to fail.\u201d\u00a0 Combine this with the wisdom of T.J. Watson, the president of IBM.\u00a0 \u201cWould you like the formula for success?\u201d Watson asks. \u201cDouble your rate of failure.\u201d<\/p>\n
How can you succeed by failing more often?\u00a0 Many successful people swear by this method.\u00a0 If you are always cautious and terrified of mistakes, you don\u2019t try much and you don\u2019t learn much.\u00a0 People who are willing to fail embrace it and lose their fear of taking action in the process.
\nWhen it comes to dating\u2026you will fail some of the time.\u00a0 The only way to be highly confident when dating is to accept failure as a part of the dating process.\u00a0 Don\u2019t think of setbacks and letdowns as something terrible that needs to be controlled at all costs.\u00a0 Instead, embrace failure as something natural that is \u201cokay.\u201d\u00a0 Embracing this simple shift in your belief system can dramatically increase your confidence.<\/p>\n
Always Know Your BATNA<\/p>\n
BATNA stands for \u201cbest alternative to negotiated agreement.\u201d\u00a0 It\u2019s a concept that has been extremely useful to me in many different areas of my life.\u00a0 Basically, it\u2019s about forming an unshakable sense of certainty when negotiating for what you want.<\/p>\n
I wish it wasn\u2019t the case, but the unfortunate truth is men and woman often need to be told how to behave in relationships.\u00a0 It\u2019s like we men are kind of wild.\u00a0 We\u2019re not tame beasts.\u00a0 We can love passionately, but sometimes we need a woman to compassionately explain what is and what is not okay, and to do so with the kind of certainty and steady gaze that lets us know she\u2019s telling us how it is rather than \u201cdiscussing emotions.\u201d<\/p>\n
Imagine you go to your landlord to complain about the broken stairway railing.\u00a0 Knowing your BATNA before you start the conversation gives you a tremendous advantage (and boosts your confidence).\u00a0 Let\u2019s say you have nowhere else to live and know you can\u2019t afford the other rental options in town.\u00a0 In that case, your best alternative to getting him to agree to fix that railing might be to ignore it for a while.<\/p>\n
On the other hand, you may have plenty of options for other rental situations.\u00a0 In that case, your BATNA is clear.\u00a0 If, after negotiating for a few minutes, he does not agree to have it fixed on his dime by next Friday, you tell him you are moving out at the end of the month.\u00a0 Suddenly you have the upper hand in the negotiation.\u00a0 You can afford to push the issue, because if he doesn\u2019t eventually agree, you can pull out your BATNA.\u00a0 In this case, your BATNA is to threaten moving out, because you know it really is a better option to you than living with the broken banister.<\/p>\n
In relationships, you should negotiate for what you want.\u00a0 Do so in a way that gives full respect to the other person\u2019s right to walk away from a relationship rather than agree to your terms.\u00a0 When you know what you want in a relationship, you can talk about it openly.\u00a0 When you have a BATNA about certain issues (like intimacy, moving in, commitment, or spending time together), you don\u2019t have to agonize about, \u201cWhat if he gets mad and leaves me.\u201d\u00a0 Your confidence is high when you already worked out in your mind that you would be better off looking for someone more compatible if he doesn\u2019t agree on certain key issues that matter a lot to you.<\/p>\n
Rely more on Attraction than Chasing<\/p>\n
Most women have at least some degree of innate understanding of the factors that attract men.\u00a0 But this article is about SUPER confidence, not mediocre confidence.\u00a0 Let\u2019s say you\u2019ve realized that your choice of mate is THE MOST IMPORTANT life decision you can make.\u00a0 Doesn\u2019t that mean you should try to understand your man as deeply as possible?<\/p>\n
The problem is that men are mysterious, even to themselves.\u00a0 They often don\u2019t understand their own emotions and desires.\u00a0 This makes it rather difficult to know how to maximally attract them while sidestepping the landmines that can obliterate a relationship just when it was getting good.<\/p>\n
