We went for a check up of his eyes and I came back very thankful for two things: the eyesight I sooo much take for granted and the work the Lions are doing.

The Lions First Sight Eye Hospital is doing a lot of good that goes unsung in our media and the least I can do is to trumpet their work here.

I am thankful for their work.

We were supposed to meet the doctor before 8am but there was a mix up and we ended up waiting up to 10:30am. Needless to say, we were relieved to finally meet one of the staff who recommended that we meet the specialist who was busy performing surgeries until 12:30 pm!

And when he got out of the theater, he dashed off to a meeting! We were to return at 4:30pm with my son, with our late lunch interrupted complete with some amazing driving from a friend of mine who hosted us for two nights (thanks for video games doc!). My son was finally seen by two doctors and and a clinical officer (talk about a blessing in disguise!).

Recommendations were made and dates set. We left the hospital for more video games…ahem!

Needless to say, we had a tough time waiting but while on our way back home in a bus that substituted the coach we were supposed to be on, I became so thankful.

The Lions go about in rural schools identifying students with eye problems and they get treatment for free. Surgery, glasses eye tests…everything is done for free.

Of particular interest to me was one mother and her three children had eye problems. One who had a really bad squint would lead his brother who was partially blind and their sister, who was also partially blind, would follow behind.

It kind of reminded me how we use to mimic a train while we were growing up…

Except this was real life.

I am thankful

for Lions and the great work they are doing.

I was thankful to God for my eye sight. Never mind the glasses I wear, I am not blind. That puts me in a unique position to do something about those who are.

I am thankful

for all the staff at that hospital and the heart with which they serve these children and everyone else.

I am thankful for everyone who gives their money to this great work of helping others with their sight.

Now get this. It almost freaked me out.

Yesterday, I was listening in to the weekly broadcast at Empower Network and Dave Sharpe featured a lady who spoke of how her friend encouraged her to write down five things she is thankful for every day. It’s kind of hard at first but she got the hang of it and realized that her life has just changed drastically!

So here I am thanking away!

p.s.
