But, having finally witnessed Del Rey in action ourselves at the iTunes Festival, earlier this week, we’ve moved firmly into fan girl territory. True to her reputation, her performance was indeed fragile, nervous and tragic to the extreme. But it was also powerfully emotive, unique and inspiring. One of the stand-out tracks of the evening was her new single, Ride – a string-backed melancholy epic, layered with the sound of lapping waves and punctuated, as ever, by the voice of a Mulholland Drive-esque product struggling with a vacant life of luxury in the glaring eye of the media. Pop music just doesn’t get realer. Get a first listen to the track, which will feature on the special Paradise Edition of Born To Die, below.

Rihanna

Track: Diamonds

From: TBC, Rocafella, TBC November 2012

She ruddy loves diamonds, does Rihanna. The single serves as a trailer for the Barbadian star’s seventh (yes, she has released that many already) studio album, which is expected to hit the shelves at the end of November. Check it out.

Crystal Castles

Track: Wrath Of God

From: III, Fiction, 5 November 2012

Canadian electro-punks Crystal Castles have announced the release of their third album, the somewhat unimaginatively titled III, in November this year. The first single from it, Wrath Of God, does sound more like a light-up dance floor being haunted by the tiny ghosts of those high-pitched mice in Babe than a raging deity, but we love it more than the legendary sheep pig himself. No idea what we’re on about either, actually. Best just hit the play button below and take a listen for yourselves.

Savages

Track: City’s Full

From: I Am Here, Pop Noire, 30 September

We’re all about supporting strong, up-and-coming female artists here on GLAMOUR.com, and we can’t think of anyone better to rally behind than the rebel-rousing, all-girl foursome Savages. This, the first track from their live EP I Am Here, embodies the best aspects of the post punk movement in the UK and spews them back out with a fresh, distinct and inventive edge. Creating something original out of such a well-worn genre? Not to be sniffed at.
