Here is the Symptom that, if I am honest, sounds most likely to be my issue tonight:<\/p>\n
Symptom<\/em><\/strong><\/h3>\nYou\u2019re self-conscious about your writing, you may have trouble getting started. So, if you\u2019re preoccupied with the idea that you have to write about a subject and feel you probably won\u2019t express yourself well\u2026<\/em><\/p>\nLet\u2019s talk about that.\u00a0 I don\u2019t normally feel like I won\u2019t express myself well.\u00a0 But, before I started this post I checked Google Analytics for this blog and decided that a solo ad I placed does not seem to be driving traffic like I\u2019d hoped.\u00a0 First thought?\u00a0 \u201cIt must have been my post.\u00a0 I must not have done a good job expressing myself, or writing creatively enough.\u201d<\/p>\n
Second thought?\u00a0 \u201cWhat a bummer.\u201d\u00a0 I really love this blog platform and truly believe every blogger should be using it.\u00a0 I guess I didn\u2019t do a good job of making that clear.\u00a0 (If you are wondering, this video<\/a> will make it clear.)<\/p>\nHere are the possible cures as suggested by Perdue\u2019s OWL<\/a>:<\/p>\nPossible Cures<\/em><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n- Talk over the subject with a friend or tutor.<\/em><\/li>\n
- assure yourself that the first draft doesn\u2019t have to be a work of genius, it is something to work with.<\/em><\/li>\n
- Force yourself to write down something, however poorly worded, that approximates your thought (you can revise this later) and go on with the next idea.<\/em><\/li>\n
- Break the task up into steps. Meet the general purpose first, and then flesh out the more specific aspects later.<\/em><\/li>\n
- Try one of the strategies on the next page of this resource.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
It looks like I unwittingly (wait, googling that word to make sure I\u2019m using it right), ok, yes, I unwittingly chose #3 under Possible Cures.\u00a0 I just started writing.\u00a0 I started talking to you as though you were right here with me.\u00a0 It seems to be working.\u00a0 I promise I won\u2019t go back and edit this.\u00a0 I will leave it as is.\u00a0 Maybe this can serve as a good example to you and other bloggers that the best thing to do is to just start writing.\u00a0 It seems to have worked out for me.\u00a0 I ended up covering a good subject, I gave you some possible solutions to a problem.\u00a0 Hopefully you were slightly entertained by my thought processes.<\/p>\n
I think I am just used to sitting down in the evening with my laptop and wine and working on my blog.\u00a0 Not writing.\u00a0 But actually working on the SEO, building the pages, etc.\u00a0 Until I found Empower Network I didn\u2019t have much time to actually write posts.\u00a0 There was so much to do to make sure my blog would get a decent rank, look nice, have enough ads to monetize well (which it never did).\u00a0 Now, I can sit down and empty my head into my blog.\u00a0 I don\u2019t have to spin my wheels with all of that other stuff I never understood and had to spend hours teaching myself.\u00a0 Maybe tonight was about withdrawal and not writer\u2019s block.\u00a0 Without all of the other stuff I didn\u2019t know what to do.<\/p>\n
Anyhoo, I\u2019ll go with writer\u2019s block and include a few more helpful links to help you get unblocked.<\/p>\n
