However, unlike people they die because of old age, since they cannot keep up with our age limits, and losing a pet is a tragic thing indeed.

I have lost my pet once; his name is “Mitsu”, short for ‘Mitsubishi’ because my Father has this crazy trend of always naming our dogs after a brand of a car. He was a pet that I grew up with, I remember playing with him on our backyard and how a simple stomp on my feet would make him run and we wound up playing’ heaven and earth’. (A running game in our culture) It is so much fun to play with a dog especially when you are at that age; it feels like you have the best friend a child that can have.

However, when I was about 8 years old, my pet passed away. Being not entirely sure for what reason but I know he is going to leave soon, he is showing signs of weaknesses since he no longer plays or runs with me on our backyard, he just keeps on lying. My dad said its because of old age, he is already 9 years old that time but a child cannot really call that ‘old’ because, I was 9! And I am still a child! I cannot seem to get the verdict of how different the life spans of dogs and humans vary but hey! Can you blame me if I do not want to believe my father?

Pets truly break our hearts when they leave us, they do not say anything but their eyes would give us a message of love and beauty. I kept on staring at Mitsu’s eyes and how it wanders from my face to my whole body then to my face again, it stirred my emotions, which as a child I cannot really identify what but he closed his eyes and slept there.

So, I went inside our house and cried for I know that he is already bidding goodbye to me, there are few indescribable feelings inside me but I cannot seem to know where or who to blame it to. Indeed, that very day he died and when I found out, tears could not escape my eyes anymore, I think I already know it was coming, and therefore prepared for it. We buried him on our backyard too, and I thanked him for everything that he has given me. I always remember Mitsu and I always miss him but I just coped with it by allowing myself to miss my beloved pet and visiting him every now and then.

Pets truly give us a kind of feeling that we, ourselves feel so grateful about, and allowing ourselves in accepting it would connote that we know they will leave our presence but not our hearts.

More stories?
