In Singapore, there were seven Ben and Jerry stations spread out all over Singapore – to mark Free Cone Day. These outlets were at Vivocity, The Cathay, Great World City, the Singapore Zoo and the Dempsey, Somerset and Rochester areas.

The previous year, I had gone to the outlet at Cathay for Free Cone Day and I ended up standing for two hours in the queue. So this year, I decided to avoid this particular outlet. Instead, I went to try my luck at the one in Somerset, hoping for a much shorter queuing time.

Going to Somerset

I made my way down to Somerset in the morning and reached there just before noon, not quite knowing whether there would be a long waiting time.

When I got there, I was pleasantly surprised because unlike the Cathay branch, there was hardly any queue here. I had actually been prepared to wait for at least one hour, but it turned out that I was in and out within ten to fifteen minutes.

The Flavours on Offer

There were five flavours available – Chocolate Therapy, Maple Tree Hugger, English Toffee Crunch, Lemon Sorbet and finally, the ever-popular Strawberry Cheesecake. This last flavour brings back pleasant memories because I had eaten this the very first time I experienced the Ben and Jerry Free Cone Day.

This time, I selected the English Toffee Crunch, because I had wanted to taste something different this round. Also, the concept of chocolate-coated toffee bits mixed into vanilla ice cream sounded completely irresistible.

The Ice Cream

With complete relish, I took my first mouthful of ice cream. The combination of vanilla ice cream and chocolate-coated toffee chunks gave a slightly crunchy texture and tasted so yummy. It felt like complete bliss, indulging in the deliciously cool ice cream at midday under the hot tropical sun.

Within minutes, I had devoured it – it was scrumptious.

The queue had been so short that I decided to immediately line up for another ice cream. The waiting time was 20 to 25 minutes the second time round.

This time, I selected the Maple Tree Hugger flavour and it was heavenly.
