\u00a0As I am reading this post, my thought process was: \u00a0<\/em>This has to stop<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0government controlling the internet or large companies who think they can control the internet\u00a0are you kidding me<\/strong>\u00a0this could become a reality if this bill is signed,\u00a0perish the thought<\/strong><\/em>. \u00a0How would this effect the whole internet <\/a>world how would this effect my business, it could be devestating no government should have this control, is this America? where am I living, what is going on here. \u00a0Where is the outrage? \u00a0Why is there no outrage?<\/div>\n

CONGRESS CONTROLLING THE INTERNET<\/strong><\/em><\/h2>\n
Congress<\/u> has a plan to change the Internet forever. A bill they\u2019re debating right now wouldgive the government power to shut down whole websites, and even let corporations say which websites should be shut down<\/strong>.<\/em><\/div>\n
That means a huge corporation could have any website even suspected of violating a copyright shut down \u2014 no questions asked. The government could then\u00a0completely block all access to sites as big as Facebook or YouTube<\/strong>\u00a0if one person posts one thing on those websites that corporations don\u2019t want online.<\/em><\/div>\n
Most major entertainment companies have come out in support of the bill, but despite swirling rumors, the huge video-gaming company Electronic Arts (EA) has yet to take an official stance. However, EA is part of the Entertainment<\/a> Software Association, one of the big corporate lobbyists for the bill to censor the Internet \u2014 meaning that if EA came out against the bill, that would be a serious blow to the people trying to get it passed.<\/em><\/div>\n
Shashank Kasturirangan is a student at NYU who\u2019s a huge fan of gaming \u2014 including EA\u2019s games \u2014 but he can\u2019t believe that EA would want to mess with the Internet.Shashank started a petition on Change.org calling on Electronic Arts to stop lobbying for Congress\u2019s plan to censor the Internet and come out against the bill. CONGRESS WANTS TO ALLOW INTERNET CENSORSHIP<\/strong><\/h3>\n

\n<\/em><\/div>\n
The Internet censorship bill is particularly dangerous, according to advocates, because it would enable the government to set up the same type of tools to block online content that are used in repressive regimes around the world, like China, Iran, and Syria.\u00a0For the first time, corporations and the government would be able to say what\u2019s acceptable to put on the Internet<\/strong>.<\/em><\/div>\n
While some companies like Google, Facebook, and Twitter<\/a> have come out against the bill, big movie studios, record companies, and their corporate lobbyists like the Entertainment Software Association are pushing Congress hard to pass Internet censorship.<\/em><\/div>\n
Electronic Arts has millions of customers around the world playing video games like Madden 2012, The Sims, and Scrabble, and they care deeply about what the public thinks about their company. If enough people call on EA to oppose the plan to censor the Internet, they will be forced to come out against the bill. And if EA backs off, other companies that haven\u2019t yet taken a position will certainly think twice before supporting Congress\u2019s plan to censor the Internet.<\/em><\/div>\n
