The fewer fields you have to fill in on your form, the better your conversions will be. that’s just human nature. Nobody likes forms but they will tolerate them to a point in order to get what they want.

There is no denying that the more information you collect, the better qualified your lead will be, but you really need to determine if this is important to you or not as you will get a lot less of them. The best way is to test both long and short forms if you’re unsure.

I my opinion, all you need is an email address. The offer will get delivered to that address, which is all the prospect wants at this stage of the process. Once you have that address in your auto-responder, let it do the work with follow-up emails to turn the lead into a customer. Then you will able to ask for as much information as you like.

Submit Or Not?

One of the best ways to increase conversions is to NOT use the word submit on your form. SUBMIT buttons are the default on many forms and I hate the word. Nobody really wants to submit to anything, so best to leave it out.

Use something more relevant and friendly for your button. For example, if you’re offering a free video, say “Get Your Video”. Other examples are: “Get Your Free Brochure”, “Join My Newletter”, “Get Your Free e-Book”.

Make your button look like a button. Make it obvious, big, bright and colorful. Remember, it has to look clickable.

Proof Elements

With the proliferation of so much spam and otherwise doggy things on the internet these days, people are more reluctant to give up their personal details. There are a couple of things you can do to reduce this anxiety however, by adding some different elements.

Add a privacy message or better still, a link to your privacy policy, which states that their email will not be shared or sold.

If your form asks for sensitive information, include a security seal, a BBB rating or certifications so that visitors will be assured their information is safe and secure.

Adding testimnials or customer logos is another way to indicate social proof.

Make The Form Appear Short

People will shy away from a form if it looks long and time consuming. Use styling to make the form look more attractive and less complicated. Make the fields easy to type into with the field titles to the left rather than above the boxes. Reduce spacing between the fields to make the form use less space on the page.

For a good example of a form for a free video, take a look at my one by clicking on the banner to the right or below. Notice that all I ask for is your email address, because that is all I need to send you your free video.

To find the previous 4 lessons in this series, go to my Blog Home Page and scroll down.

Optimised Forms Forms are very much the key to any landing page, because without them, you can not convert visitors to your page into leads for your business.
