When you first imagined yourself running your own business, you probably didn\u2019t imagine yourself getting chained to your computer for 18 hours a day. And yet that\u2019s the unpleasant reality that many new business owners face.<\/p>\n
Fortunately, it doesn\u2019t have to be that way. You CAN run your business in just a few hours per day. The key is to get organized so you can follow your business plan without distractions.<\/p>\n

Step 1: Prioritize and Organize Your Overall Business Plan.<\/p>\n
You do have a business plan, right? If not, create your plan first, which should detail what you intend to sell, how you intend to create this product and how you intend to advertise and market it.<\/p>\n
Once you have your overall plan, then organize this plan in terms of priority.
\nExample: You\u2019ll want to start building a prospect list immediately (even before you finish a product). Meanwhile, a task like creating the autoresponder content for your customer list will be a bit further down the list, simply because you won\u2019t even have customers until you have something you can sell.<\/p>\n
Step 2: Create a Weekly To Do List.<\/p>\n
Now that you\u2019ve organized your overall list of tasks, you can break these tasks down into weekly chunks.
\nThat is, what are you going to do each week for the next four weeks, eight weeks, twelve weeks and more to build your business?<\/p>\n
Step 3: Craft a Daily To Do List.<\/p>\n
Now that you know what you\u2019re going to accomplish each week, your next step is to break down the weekly to-do list into a daily to-do list.<\/p>\n
This is important. You see, you don\u2019t want to just work off your weekly to-do list, because it\u2019s probably a bit overwhelming. This can lead to paralysis, meaning you stop making forward progress.<\/p>\n
Instead, break down your big tasks into bite-size chunks, preferably tasks that just take an hour or so to complete. That way you get a sense of momentum as you finish each task and cross it off your list, which keeps you moving forward.<\/p>\n
Step 4: Get Organized.<\/p>\n
You now know what you need to do every day of the week. So at the end of every work day, schedule 10 to 15 minutes to review tomorrow\u2019s to-do list so that you can get organized and prepared for it.<\/p>\n
Example: If you intend to create a video tomorrow, then get your camera, microphone, backdrop and lighting ready the night before.<\/p>\n
Step 5: Stick to Your List.<\/p>\n
You have a list \u2013 now your job is to stick to it! Because if you don\u2019t stick to your daily to-do list, then you\u2019re derailing your entire business plan.
\nHere are two tips to staying on track:<\/p>\n
\u2022 Make your list visually exciting. For example, maybe you put your list on a whiteboard in your office. Or perhaps you make it the wallpaper on your PC desktop.
\n\u2022 Start with your least favorite thing. That\u2019s right, start with the task you dread the most. Once that\u2019s done, you can move forward quickly and enjoy the rest of your day.<\/p>\n

Listen, plenty of folks just gloss over these sorts of steps. Instead, they focus on the next bright and shiny product launch that hits their inbox.<\/p>\n
